Water pump on my old truck gave up. I don’t even remember when I replaced it last time, so old it was. 25+ years of service is not bad.
Anyhow, I would not proceed myself with water pump replacement due to fan clutch nut obstacle.
Reading this forum helped a lot. BIG THANKS to Old Goat for ingenious hint to use chain to lock pulley!
In this post Stubborn waterpump fan nut | Diesel Truck Forum - Oilburners.net Old Goat gave me the solution for releasing fan clutch nut the easy way.
My only modification of Old Goat method was using a thicker chain (local hw store cut a ~ foot of it). And, no hammer needed ! Just a breaker bar ½” did it, a good pull and old rusted nut came loose. Please see photos to illustrate.
Useful : Chain method works both ways – for loosening fan clutch nut and for tightening the nut as well. Really good suggestion, thanks Old Goat.
Thanks
