90-100 degress above ambient temp is about normal, in the summer mine would set right at 195.

The hottest I have ever seen no load in the HOT Houston summer running the truck hard in traffic is 170*-175*.

Freeway cruising mine shows 165 to 180. In town with lots of stop and go I will hit 195 easy when the temp is 85+

I was told to put it in the trans plug just above the pan, when I do a fliud service I will weld a bung in the pan and put it there.
