HX40 will be a better bet. The HX35 hot side is to small IMHO, it will be nice on the bottom end for spool, but high rpm's would result in high back pressure/EGT's.

Ditch the stock 12cm housing and go larger, they sell a 16cm/18cm non gated housing which would work better. The 21cm housing from one of the H1C's and a HX40 hotside might actually make a decent combination, although a little laggy on the bottom (but we have high compression so thats not as much of a problem). A stock HX35 will be like a 093 ATS turbo. It will make a difference, but it is not ideal (which is the case for any of the banks, ATS, or hypermax turbo kits).

My thought is, it will make up for the more restrictive hot side by boosting more, and I doubt it will be much more restrictive than the Mitsubishi turbo that's on there now..

HX35 is fine. I'm running the 12 cc housing, stock WG setting of ~20 psi and have no issues. Good spool, good low end boost, no high egt issues. I'm running a air/water intercooler but even without that egts weren't that high. With it I rarely see over 950* pre turbo. I've towed up to 21k GCW with this truck, most commonly 14-16k and it's performed quite well. ~20k miles so far with no issues.

Be aware that there is also an HY35 that has a smaller exhaust side. but is very nearly identical visually with an HX35. IIRC these were manly used on automatic dodge trucks, maybe post 99? HY35 probably is going to be too small.

35/40 hybrid is extra work you don't need. The 35 stock is fine to at least 20 psi, and I doubt you'd be going above that.

I'd be more concerned about clearance issues. The HX35 compressor housing is about double the size of the Banks and I doubt it'll fit in the stock location without some serious work.

And as far as clearances go, I am pretty sure it will fit. How much bigger is the exhaust housing on the hx?

Spec are in the linked thread. HX35 on a 6.9, 0.015" decked & coated pistons. Turbo mount and piping is all custom.

Exhaust housing is very similar though a bit bigger. The outlet centerline is about 1/2" higher IIRC which means you'll need to modify the downpipe. Also, the outlet flange, at least on mine, doesn't match the Banks even though it looks close enough to work... I expect the exhaust side can be made to work. Problem is intake side. It's about twice or more the diameter, and a bit longer. From what I've seen of clearances on a Banks setup, the housing will likely hit the firewall and the intake manifold.
