any one with any experience in one? I am commuting a 180 miles a day and the 97 f350 only will give me 21 mpg if I keep it down in the 60's

any info would be good at this point. I am also thinking the VW, but I like the thought of a bit more metal around me on the SoCal freeways.

after 92-94ish quility at benz went to hell in a hand basket ,the people running benz decided to cut cost minimizing durabilty skimping on certain things .
So in a short sentance itll be be hit or miss .
Look at the older mb you can find em for not alot and they are tanks

Look for a 190D if you are looking for Mileage. Either 1985 or 86 can be had with a 5 speed manual and have been known to hit 40+ on highway runs. 87 was available with the turbo 2.5 and would see low to mid 30's pretty regular.

Benzin will tell you his 300D is seeing 30+, but his car is fluke. 95% of everyone else I talk to or know personally is in the 24 to 28 MPG range with a 82 to 85 300D.
