I am thinking of spraying my 87 with bedliner from a can. Used it on a few odds and ends things with good luck. So far I painted the back drop bumper and the grill.

I plan to do some slight body work and then paint it. I plan to use this as my learning curve for doing work on my 2003 F350 (I did spray the hoop steps I have on it but those aren't a big deal).

Just curious if you guys think its even worth the effort. I figure it would cost around $150 for the paint.

don't bother with the spray can. Find a local body shop supplier in the area and buy a kit to spray with a compressor.

I know but then I have buy the sprayer and compressor or rent. At that point I would have more in tools than the rig is worth. I have already spent more in repairs than what I paid for it. I bought it as a hobby to keep me out of the casinos or bars.

You know what they say about idle hands....

I appreciate the opinion. I may just have to go buy the proper tools. I just move too much to want to make the plunge and buy more stuff.

i should clarify, i myself have used two different brands. One of them i got from my autobody supplier which is Raptor bed liner, which you will need to purchase a spray gun.

SEM products (fairly popular product) makes a bed liner kit that uses the same gun, its a little cheaper and looks to be the same as the UPOL stuff.

Last is the Duplicolor Bed armor kit i used on a friend's jeep for his interior. Again i had to buy a gun to spray this as this comes in larger cans. Seems to be holding up ok, but its inside the truck, not in a bed.

I would use the SEM stuff again. Its not a air cured product like the do it yourself duplicolor stuff. You add the harderner, shake and spray. Its what the bodyshop that i do work for uses.

you are going to need to buy a spray gun for this regardless. Rolling a bed doesn't get into all the nooks and crannies effectively.

This is one time where i will say don't cheap out, do it once and do it right. If you have to redo it again because it chips and peels.... Maybe i use my bed harder than you will?

I used the duplicolor rattle can bedliner on my s10's lower body panels and fender flares. Held up decent but was a pain to clean, mud seemed to kinda strain it.

That stuff is useless. I guarantee that over time it will chip and flake off. Read up on it, I wouldnt recommend it.

Avoid Herculiner I used that on my 88 Comanche and the sun faded it from black to gray in a few months, also simply throwing a shovel in the bed would scrape up a huge chunk of liner.

I rolled it on though, 2 coats I think and chemically cleaned the surface first with MEK.

You are going to bedline the OUTSIDE of the truck?

DONT.

Just buy a decent single stage enamel from Napa. They have a selection of premixed colors for about $50-60 a gallon or less. It will look way better and you will be able to refine your body work skills

and do me and the rest of the world a favor, pull the freakin bed bolts before you use bedliner....
its real annoying when people use that crap over everything. There is no reason for it.

thanks!
