Sludge in coolant

I just inspected a 1995 F-250 Diesel with 284,000 miles and decided not to buy it because of a significant quanity of sludge in the coolant overflow. Am I right to not buy it? The sludge was a thich greenish-gray color.

I would steer away from any vehicle that had that in the cooling system.. it's a tell tale sign of either something bad that is about to happen or has already...

Keep on looking you'll find the right one.

Thats called oil in the coolant. It helps with lubercating the insides of the cooling system.
