I have ordered a new spectra rear tank to replace my current rear tank. My question is are there any recommended coatings to paint the tank. I was thinking of painting the tank to make it last longer than the original. I am sure the new tanks are not as good as the originals.

Just use a quality primer and paint it up. bring the tank by your local auto paint supply and have them check out what its made of so they can reccomend the best thing they have on hand to prime and finish coat it.

As far as fittings, permatex max temp thread sealant is all I use on everything with threaded fittings. Costs a bit more, but holds out better in high temop high vibration situations

For painting the outside of the tank I recommend using the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator or Chassis Black. These are some pretty tough coating that shouldn't chip too easily.
