I always stay mixed up on the Bull Nose, Brick, OBS...... So I just always say mine is a '90 model CCDually & it's still going. Come home tonite looked down & I was going 85+.... must'a been wanting to get home! LOL LOL

The naming convention you see on here (and other places):

1967 - 1972: Bumpside (because of the body lines near the top of the fenders/doors)

1973 - 1979: Dentside (because of the “dent” near the top of the fenders/doors) - My 2nd Favorite Bodystyle

1980 - 1986: Bullnose (last model to use glass sealed beam headlights) - My Favorite Bodystyle

1987 - 1991: Bricknose (Has he large plastic headlights and is flat as a brick)

1992 - 1997: OBS (Old Body Style / Original Body Style (I’ve also seen this called the Aeronose) which I’ve read came after the SuperDuty body F-2/3/4/550’s came out because it was the “original” truck to have a 7.3PSD - “Since Ford never had a diesel before the PSD…. LOL)

You mentioned Glass sealed head Lights. About 3 years ago I was at PNP they had a 50% off sale, and I was getting everything I could drag home.
Had my Wheel barrow filled and went through check out, and had a few Seal Beams.. Unloaded and went back in grabbed a few more things.
So I grabbed about 12 more lights, and going back through check out, the checker was a sweet young thing, and said "What are those? Fog Lights?" "NO, seal beam head lights".
Guy behind me said..."Old School".
Pay for everything and head down to the Casino to wash up, was looking at both recipts, first girl charged $3.00 ea and the sweet young thing charged $18 ea. ;Pissed

I head back up there just about them closing the doors. Ask her what did you charge me for? show her both recipts. He and her DA Side kick looked at me like I was trying to rip off PNP and didn`t know anything.
After going back and forth, she said if I charge the $3 will you buy them???....
Took her out to the truck and showed her the lights.
"this is an 86 Ford and last year of Seal Beam head Lights". And I know she was really impessed...she is no longer there... -Playme
Iam old enough to be her Grand Father and probably older than her Dad.

After the 86 every thing went to all the plastic c r a p.

.... yeah... well...that's just like..... your opinion...man... Maybe you should go replace your high pressure oil pump before your injectors quit working all of a sudden....I'm just kidding.... PSD are sweet, but outta my price range.

The only thing superior to the bricknose, is he 61 to 63 fleet side. The "unibody" if you will, no separation between the bed and cab which causes all sorts of problems, but those short bed unibodies are sweet! I've only seen 5 or 6 of them in real life.

Yea.... I've heard many a comment that Ford didn't have a diesel until 94....... nope, sorry... try 1983..... I've owned more than 1 IDI.... but currently the only Ford Diesel I own is my 03 6.0PSD..... owned it for 15 years, and counting.

It's been a while, but I swear that I read somewhere that there was a diesel option for pickups back in the early 60's. It was a N/A 6 cylinder and very weak even compared to a stock 1983 6.9.

Mazda may have had a Perkins Diesel, Ranger as well?

In the 80’s in the 1st gen Ranger (glass headlight ones) Ford put a diesel for a couple years. I think they used a Perkins early and a Mitsibushi in the later ones.. One of the guy’s in Canada has one of the later ones ( can’t think of his username at the moment, he has a thread of my other Ford IDI or something like that)… and I think @Jake_IN has, or had one also.

They also put a diesel in the E scort, and in a Lincoln Mark IV for a couple years. The Lincoln used a BMW diesel and it was a “real piece” from what I heard.

On the GM side of the house, you could get a diesel Luv, Chevette (which every flavor from the divisions).

Then don’t forget the 4.6 and 5.7 liter diesels in the bigger cars…..

Hay thanks Scott.
I'll try to save this info..... probably loose it so I'll try save it in my mind, & probably loose it by Monday so I'll start telling folks real proudly "I got a real fast Ford Diesel!" LOL

Speaking of earlier Ford diesels, when I was trucking back in the late '70's I unloaded up in mid Arkansas at an irrigation place. They were putting a Perkins air cooled 5 cyl engine in a Ford (yr? bout '76-'78) one ton truck. Said that engine had already been in 2 other Internationals. Engine had already wore the other trucks out!!!! Doing it for some guy up in Missouri that pulled big long heavy GN stock trailer. Said guy was getting 32-36 MPH loaded & 40+ mph empty pulling trailer!!!

That Perkins was set up if you wanted 1 cyl engine fine, 2cyl just change crank & add cyl, 3 cyl same thing. 4 cyl same. They had figured out that 5 cyl worked out to fit Internationals, no radiators etc. Was trying it in a Ford now.
These was same engines they used on irrigation pumps there in Ark rice fields country.
Ran into guy in Florida that done same thing in Ford dually plus added dually tag axle & was VERY HAPPY!!!'

I never forgot all this. Finally came up with a 5 cyl Perkins out of big Liaberah (sp) Execrator, bur never got round to experimenting, had to sell engine few yr later.

I'd drive a diesel Mark

It was the Mark VII, I just looked. But I'd never heard of that! I'd rock a diesel mark VII, could you imagine that beautiful sporty luxury car pulling up at a red light sounding like a farm tractor, smoking like the dickens! I LOVE IT!!!
