I just went back to the very first picture you posted and I can see the "88" clearly in that picture of the OEM precup...
Since it's Ford, and since it's a "dealer item", I'm betting the "88" is to remind the parts guy of the $88 markup profit to charge.. hahaha..
Special thanks to our in house hand model for pointing out the "88" marking.. That is filed away in my permanent memory bank for later use. Beverage of choice on me, OK?
