Mathias's mileage with his 6.9 F150 has made me jealous! I would like to see what kind of figures the rest of you are seeing. To make this more meaningful, please post eng, body, bed length, 2 or 4WD, and tires size (if not oem) and what king of load, or empty, engine size, turbo, or not.
Anything else we should add?

My dually, reg cab long bed, 7.3 with just a cold-air intake and an unmuffled 3" single stack, 2wd with 235/85-16 rears and 265/75-16 fronts, few hundred pounds of random stuff in the bed, and at least 1 full tank of fuel at all times - absolute best over several tanks on a single trip was 21mpg, cruising at 55mph, at ambient temperatures about 70F, through mostly flat lands and some low to moderate hills. Oh yah, engine fan is locked to the water pump so it blows full speed all the time, I'd imagine with e-fans I can squeeze out another 1-2mpg.

In 22 years of driving the truck in more or less it's current state (see below), my mpg has been constant. Assumes sensible solo driving. My speedo/odo has been tested to be 100 percent accurate and in the days when it wasn't (shorter factory tires... the speedo seems perfectly calibrated for 33s), I used a correction factor once I discovered the error. The error with the factory tires, speedo reading higher than actual and odo reading more than travelled) tends to show better-than-actual mpg.

Freeway at 55 mph= 16+ (15-17)
Freeway at 65 mph= 14 (13-15)
Freeway at 70 mph= 13+ (12-14)
Town Commute= 14+ (13-15)
Towing (17-18K GCVW)= 7-11
Best Recorded MPG= 18.6 mpg

I think weight and RPM at 55MPH is the two key factors more than anything. I got 23 MPG with the Moose Truck once. But then the Moose Wagon has done that also, and it weighs 2000 pounds more.

Moose Truck @ 6250 pounds and 1400 RPM at 55 MPH = avg 19, Best 23.

As an aside, Matthias rarely needs to downshift, and stays in overdrive at any speed above 45 regardless of the size of the hill. LOL

93 4x4 dually 4.10 and oem tires best was 18 empty and usually 14-15 loaded with at least 5k pounds or more.

I still didn't get any #'s with the new drivetrain but I think I'm at 20+ empty.

All this highway miles.

I guess I'm not doing so good.

'94 F250 XLT reg cab. 5 speed, 4x4, manual hubs, 285/75R16 mud tires (which aren't helping) and 4.10 gears.

I can't go 55 on the highway here and not get run over, so I usually keep it around 65.

Lately I'm getting 13 mpg no matter what, whether I'm driving back and forth to work or going 100 miles on the highway. I don't know how it does with a heavy load, the heaviest things I've actually hauled so far are my motorcycle and some furniture.

Not really what you are looking for, but here is a comparison:

03 Excusion 6.0L 4x4 ESOF, 5 speed auto (TorqShift) and 3.73 LS

Empty on the interstate (90+ Degrees, AC on MAX, 70-75 MPH 2200 RPM) - 19.5
Towing Small Flatbed on interstate (2000ish lbs, AC on,65 MPU 1900 RPM ) - 18
DD Back an Forth to work (Part in town, part interstate AC on, upto 75 MPH) - 16.5

BTW - I do not drive it like a little old man either....

The Excursion diesel is a great vehicle for fuel economy and hauling around a bunch of kids/people/stuff. Too bad they killed it. My truck in my signature gets around 12-15 mpg around town as my DD and probably 17 or so on the highway if I drive it easy. I really need to get an OD of some sort and get my pump timed....

Diesel JD,

I agree, I absoutely love the Ex. We have 5 kids and pull a travel trailer... so no pickup made has enought people capasity, and a 1/2 ton gasser van would not be happy with the trailer. To step up to a diesel van, i would either have to customise it myself, or find a "window van" like Wonderer-rocc has.

I have actually stopped and looked a other Ex's and if I had the money I would have a second one. I looked at an 02 7.2 2wd twin to mine...... That would have been a good fuel mileage package......

I plan on having my Ex for a lllllloooooonnnnnnggggggg time. When the 6.0 need an overhaul in several hundred thousand miles, I will give Trav a call and tell him to come down for the weekend and we will tear it down and make it like new again.

BTW - I don not have any mods to the truck 100% stock Grill to Tailgate, Roof to tires... so that is "From Ford" mileage, I could probally squeek a couple of mpg out of it with a tuner...... but what fun is an Econo Tune, when a "fun" tune is available at the push of a button...... I just wont have that button........to tempting.....

Heck my 1/2 ton gasser with 302 auto and 2wd will barely get 15mpg doing 55 much less anything faster. Man my truck sucks

What is really sad is that my 04 SuperDuty in my signature averages between 18-19 mpg driving it normal (without babying it) on the same route that my wifes 02 Envoy only gets 17mpg really babying the crap out of it. And the weight difference is quite a bit.

Perhaps more specifically, too bad the media killed it. Whenever anybody tested one, they ALWAYS grabbed the gas version. One magazine gave it the "Exxon Valdese award". I get 19.4 MPG average on my commute, and on the interstate on a long trip it climbs past 20 all the time. This is an 8000 pound vehicle! Considering it gets only a few MPG less than an econo box that seats 4, I'd say that was quite an excellent vehicle.
