So witch engine has more capability of making the most torque below 1800rpm the 7.3idi or the 12v cummins. what if the 7.3 had a p7100 would it make the low end more capable.
What is it a crazy question? I figured that the 7.3 has a very large displacement advantage witch helps low rpm torque but the cummins is a straight 6 witch naturally makes better torque. I'm not talking about stock engines. The 7.3 would have something like a rd4 150 pump and matching turbo
I cant say much for modified, however stock the turbo 7.3 idi makes 388ft-lbs @ 1400rpm. The 12v cummins makes 400-440ft-lbs @ 1600 rpm (depending on year)
Iirc, lower rpm + more power = high cylinder pressure. The cummins will handle that better.
For either engine, a vgt style turbo will help. Dps turbonator would be my choice.
If your planning on a rd150 the motor will not like low rpm lugging
That pump is more geared toward high airflow from a turbo and stage 1 camshaft and that camshaft doesnt like to be below 1800. It is oriented much more towards high rpm
For low rpm it's going to be likely no bigger than a 90cc pump and a typ4 torque cam
So I had a 24v cummins p pump to install in my 94 F 350 but the price tag kept getting deeping into my pockets before installing, always wondered how that would've worked in front of a ZF5
