The guy I bought my truck from said he used kerosine (a quart) about every 10k miles and that the previous owner (original) had done the same. He thought thats why the engine ran so good after so many miles??

Not sure if I will continue...need to read up on the matter some more...

kerosene has no lubricating qualities. ( Neither does ULSD but thats neither here nor there). Your best bet for lube is Wallmart TWC oil at 10 dollars a gallon.

You have to figure out how much twc oil you need to run and also how much you save using K1 over D2

My big concern would be saving 50 dollars in fuel and spending 500 on a new injection pump.

I think the clear K1 has at least some fuel taxes applied to it. Does it have the "non taxable use, penalty for taxable use" disclaimer at the K1 pump? The dyed, untaxed ones do, just like an offroad street illegal pump. As far as I know they can't tell if it was taxed or not unless that dye is in there, but the reason many people get into trouble is that it is designed to be detectable for many many tanks of legal fuel after the offense occured. As to the warrant thing, I have heard various stories 1) If you have DOT #s you are absolutely required to submit 2) If you have locking fuel caps that is probable cause and you must submit to the test. 3) If you are there, that implies you can ask for a search warrant. If any of this is incorrect, someone with definitive knowledge should correct me. I'd actually like to see how a court would feel about the DOT giving someone who was actually innocent of fuel tax evasion but asked for a warrant out of principle the bad treatment Dieselcrawler described.

Kerosene has a higher Cetane than diesel but has less BTUs per gallon so expect less MPG.

It lacks the lubricity like others mentioned but a couple quarts of TC-W3 two stroke would make up for that.

Home heating oil is just diesel without the road tax. It is dyed red though and depending on where your tank is located decides weather you get D1 winter fuel or D2 summer fuel. Having an indoor tank means you can use the summer fuel witch has more BTUs per gallon. The winter fuel is either pure kerosene or a mixture of kerosene and diesel. This is why we get lower fuel mileage in the winter.

If you do run the kerosene the oil you want to use is 2 cycle oil, the brand you need to look for is Supertech (Walmart) Thats the only brand I know of that is the ashless that Icanfixall is talking about/

X2, Lawnboy oil also;Sweet

yep. if they want to dip it they can. if u put a screen in the tube to prevent it, they will unscrew a filter or drain some out of the water seperator.....i been dipped once

Regardless of what state you're in, there's a huge difference between what they can do and what they will do. The will do what they want unless you know your rights. If you don't know your rights, then you need to be willing to pay for a good lawyer that will make them look like idiots on the witness stand, which generally isn't too hard to do.

If you are running a personal vehicle (as opposed to a fleet vehicle), I'd be hard pressed to believe that an officer has the right to "dip" your vehicle unless you happen to be in one of our more socialist states. Beyond that, if you have a locked gas cap, in most states that would require a warrant. Most of the time they are testing based on color. If you were to add ATF to your fuel, it would give it a red tint. Perfectly reasonable to do, and perfectly good argument in court. You just have to be willing to deal with all the BS of going to court and fighting what ever fine they are trying to dump on you.

From what I hear the dye they use in the untaxed fuel is detectable at low levels based on chemistry not color if they really want to pursue it. Honestly even though I'm law abiding as much as I possibly can I'd probably make any law enforcement officer walk through a warrant to search anything on my person or vehicle. I know there are some very good people in government and most law enforcement types are good people (but working under oppressive and invasive rules/laws) but I've seen enough crap to not roll over and give up my rights just to make their day easy.

Just stopped at our local fuel station. Kerosene is $3.89 and diesel is $4.19. I'm kind of wanting to try this out, possibly mixing it with diesel. Although I'm still uncertain about the lubrication on this. I don't want to run it without enough lubrication. IF I still need to add some supertech, the question is how much. If I do need to with the price of the 2 cycle and the kerosene would I really be saving money? I guess it all depends on how much is needed to be added to bump up the lube.

I do know of instances that you are not with the truck when the tank is dipped. A friend of mine is a farmer... the "revenuers" like to show up at farm auctions, equipment auctions, livestock auctions and dip every tank on every vehicle that is a diesel. A lot of farmers use off-road diesel in their farm equipment, since it is on-hand they may use it in their pick-up. No, farm plates do not make you exempt, sorry. They do the testing during the "event" and are waiting for you when you come back to the truck. Apparently in my part of the country this is a common practice. He has been dipped several times. He makes sure to run nothing but straight #2.... not worth the hassle to not....
