No actually the deal is that if you could delete the original post then what would happen to the subsequent replies to that post? They wouldnt make much sense if the original question or comment was deleted.

i think that you should be allowd to delete your topic if no one has replyed to it yet but thats just me

The only problem I can see with that is if someone is replying while you are deleteing it.

You can always edit your post and null it all out. Sort of like deleting, but with a footprint.
