When I rent my meters I recommend everyone to time their engine to several different degrees of timing. Use a center punch to make a mark in the line where the pump fastens to the gear housing. You have about 2 inches of area to use. Now only you will know what these marks means. They will only be correct for the pump on the engine when you timed it. You can even remove the pump. Reinstall it and still know what the timing will be. But no other pump will time like the one you have. Sadly nobody can rebuild a pump and keep the timing the same. The pump does not allow it to be reassembled that way. Kind of a design fault.. kind of like the hard lines not giving enough movement when you try to move the pump. Eight really hard lines can really make moving the pump difficult.
