OK, also in the realm of "no dumb questions" I need to turn my pump down a little, because I'm wasting fuel in clouds of black smoke.. So which direction is up/down- in or out/ clockwise-counter clockwise??:dunno

Clockwise increses the fuel, counter-clockwise decreases the fuel.;Sweet

I should caution you that turning your pump down could possibly violate your warranty if there is any left. None of my customers have any problems with their pumps until they start tinkering with them. There are other issues that could be causing your smoke problem, and if you start messing with your calibration, you may not like what happens. Black smoke means too much fuel, or too much timing, so if its too much fuel, then take your foot off the pedal!
