FWIW, I think that all trucks except regular cab 4x4's (and MAYBE regular cab 4x2's, but I recall someone with a 4x2 regular cab saying he had one) have a carrier bearing. I know I have one on my 4x4 extended-cab.

Real easy to replace...just take the driveshaft to your friendly neighborhood machine shop, ask them to press out the old one and install the new one, and $10 or so later, you're good to go! :D

Both my trucks have them, and I've had to replace both of them. Not a big deal, but of course, I did them at work with air tools and a press. I shimmed my 2wd bearing when I put a slight lift on the truck. No ill effects.

Tanya, that bearing should of been making some noise before it turned into that!!!

I did the one on My truck and it sure was a lot of work with no tools but it was not impossible, just have a good chissel and 2 lbs hammer and a good pair of gloves that will do the trick if You don't know any drive shaft shop.

Ron,

Go ahead and shim it if it makes you feel better - it won't hurt anything...

Your prolly better off shimming it, to get a good driveline angle. Less wear.
Take a look at the Monster trucks. They use big steel brackets to straighten theirs out.
