23.8 average while pulling a gooseneck? Yeah right. I would believe 23.8 MPG best mileage unloaded and driving conservatively. Or is your numbers based on the computer readout in the truck?

The read out in the truck of course but it gets the best mileage I have ever gotten I swear.and trust me when it says you have 21 miles left the fuel stop better not be 21.5. I wil get the numbers though cause now you have me wondering but I know it will go twice as far as my old ford on 2 tanks of fuel.

I average about 16-18 around town on both mine. If I baby it and watch the overhead on the highway, I might be able to go as high as 20mpg. It's just not how I drive... I usually have it pushed down pretty far and get around 16-17 mpg. I really don't know where these people come up with 23 or more. I can't drive like that.

i agree with the above i have a 07 ,5.9. 4x4 tho i have had it do around 23 mpg watching the overhead and cruising slower than 70 mph

04.5 With 110K Miles, 48RE. Always with an extra 300lbs of tools, junk, etc. in the bed and my 300lbs driving. I've logged every tank since I bought it 1 1/2 years ago.
My old trip to work was 13 miles. 3 miles stop and go redlights and 10 miles 75 mph interstate. My avg was 16.5 - 17mpg.
I'm now working 3 (yes, 3!) miles from home and it's all stop and go, not over 45 mph and my first tank averaged 12mpg!
Best that I have seen was 19.5 when half the miles on the tank were 65mph on the hiway.
BUT! If I quote the overhead I get 21.5-22mpg! :rotflmao

i get the same difference in the over head and doing the math at the pump

Any of the late model diesels can bust the 20mpg threshold, except those that still have that DPF system intact. Cummins is my first choice, then the Duramax, then the Ford. Any of them would get the appropriate tuner, exhaust and intake upgrade, synthetics and a sympathetic foot to keep the mpg up. But the Cummins seems to mpg really well, especially when geared right.

My good ol '93 can get 20 if I baby it and keep the speeds down. I need to get some new sticks, unload the massive amount of crap I have in my tool box, and tune it right and I know I can get low 20s. Lots of 2nd Gen 12v trucks are getting low 20s as well.

I have an 04.5 6 spd, 3.73s,4x4. The overhead shows 22-23.3 most of the time but the best I ever seen on paper was 21.05 and that was driving 35-40mph. The worst I ever got was 9.1 and that was with the truck and gooseneck grosing 20000lbs and running 65-70mph on I-40. Most of the time its 16.5-17 mixed city and highway driving.

Recently bought my '03 with 43,506 on the clock. Filled up in San Antonio, TX and drove to Enid, OK. Idiot guage said 21.5, hand calc was 20.5. Returning, I filled up in Enid and averaged 18.7 by hand calc all the way to Waco, TX. I figure bad fuel in Enid. Filled at Flying J in Waco and got 21.8 mpg (hand calc) into San Antonio.

'03 5.9 H.O. with 4.10 gears, 4x4, 48RE auto, steady 65 mph. Full camper shell.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to mileage...I have hand calculated anything from a low of 9mpg to a high of 26mpg in my empty 2500 (2004.5, 4wd, 4.10s, NV5600).

I typically see between 18 and 20 mpg...but I'm not breaking any land speed records to do it either. Towing, I'm between 12 mpg (towing at near max gvw of 20k) and 18 mpg (towing my 5k pound low height 5vr).
