I'm an IDI guy looking at an '08 F450 w/6.4. the computer says 10.5 mpg. Does this sound right? I will use it for towing 3 horse and 30' 5er.

They also said it has 4:88 rears in it. is this stock? Sounds awfully high for this truck. is the 6.4 reliable?

a buddy of mine has a new 450 4x4 with the 4:88 gears and it only gets about 10 mpg.says after the warranty runs out he is going to do the dpf delete to help out with the fuel mileage.

10.5 mpg with the 4:88's for the F-450 sounds about right.... it'll pull like a freight train. Reliability is good.

What is the dpf delete? What mpg does a 6.0 get?

we had an f550 4x4 dumper with the 6.4L, 6 speed standard and 4.88's in it. Loaded or not, it would go like a cat with it's ass on fire! Leave it in 6th gear climbing hills I couldn't go up with an empty tandem without downshifting on the highway. and empty....it was a race car....up to about 80 MPH when she would hit the govenor.

The only problem we had other than not having a fuel tanker following us, was the down pipe broke....apparently it happens to them and was covered by warranty.

at work we have 2 6.4 trucks, nice trucks, good power but the mileage sucks bad. the dealer said it would improve with miles and at 40k it still sucks. Hang me if you like but if i were to buy a new truck today id get a chevy with a 8.1 vortec- cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, very well proven motor, same mileage
