The 84 went from Colorado to Idaho and blew a headgasket in the middle of Utah, after I studded it and rebuilt the heads/oil cooler it pretty much just gets firewood, goes fishing and hunting that type of deal, usually around ~250 miles one way so no long distances. The 97 on the other hand gets driven on a couple 1000-1500 mile trips a year.

Heck yes!
My wife's explorer gets lower mileage (5.0+awd=16hwy)
That and I find the old bench MUCH more comfortable than the newer seats.
That's not even mentioning that I'd trust the Flood Victim with my life mechanically at this point.

My idi probably sees about 500 miles annually when the engines not out of it lol. Don't drive it much anymore but used to make a 300 mile round trip with it all the time.
My 6.7 psd gets 45k annually & have taken it on a 1500 mile round trip.

At the drop of a hat, check fluids, tires, Carry belts and hoses. And have them stocked behind the seat for the trip thursday.

So, for a faith in the work I do, we built the diesel for the 4x4 10 yrs ago now, I fired it up on a wednesday, loaded the camper on thursday night, fixed crossover pipe leaks, it then was an all new ATS 093 system. Loaded the camper and left on a sunday for wisconsin by way of canada. The only problem we had was the damn leece neville alt that I thought was fail safe. Silly me. EVERYONE at work thought I was nuts for not driving it for a while first. No confidence that bunch.LOL
Safe travels Calvin, gonna miss you at dinner. nannernanner

I take mine on long distance trips as often as time and money will allow. Not cross country.. but into the back country of UT, NV, ID, MT and WY. Oftentimes during the colder months and usually solo. I love exploring and so far this truck has done a great job of helping me get out there. The simplicity, the stout drivetrain and the fuel range (need a lot of range in the middle of nowhere) the diesel engine offers is hard to beat.

Would I drive it across country? Yep, I'd do it starting tomorrow if I had the time and money. I'd love to take it to Alaska someday but for now that's on the bucket list.

I try my best to keep up on maintenance and carry critical spare parts/tools. That's not to say I haven't had a fair share of issues pop up. Most recently I had a starter solenoid give up near one of the most remote mountain ranges in Utah and had to jump the terminals with a screwdriver... that was fun--yay fireworks!! -cuss

Many moons ago, when my girls were considerably younger, We took the '86 from San Jose to Colorado springs to pick some things up from my aunt's house. We loaded the bed and hauled a decent size trailer back. The '86 is an extended cab, and the girls rode in the back seat. They were not terribly excited, in any positive way, and they refused to speak to me for quite a while when we got home.

Drive safely going to Texas. When will you be back?

Us east coast states are small... psh. Ask everyone that came to Mel's rally or gooses rally from the west. Woohoo we hit pa! 5 hrs later still in pa.....

I used to take my 94 anywhere at the drop of a hat. Never had major issues other than both calipers locking up in Florida.

Like Russ said, at the drop of a hat. It sat for two months this summer and then I started it and headed off on a 400 mile trip. My aux tank gives me almost 2000 miles of range so the next trip for the 94 is to upstate NY and back to visit the inlaws.
As many of you know, my IDI mercedes does longer trips. That last one was 6187 miles total.

Since this one is a RC I do not foresee it going too far, although I drove it back to Maryland from Michigan. My dually was away from home for 3 weeks for vacation when it dropped the valve.

I just came back from Sedona, AZ and surrounding areas - Phoenix, Flagstaff, Prescott, Cottonwood, Jerome, Kingman- Erica and I commented about how many nice rust free bricks, bulls, dents, OBS we saw driving around including a sweet Scout. (You know I married right when we talk about trucks on our honeymoon!) Talked to a guy that at one time owned a Centurion 6dr, and two Centurion Broncos.

Most sightings were on back roads, not interstates. The "problem" out there is the distance to just basic parts and services. Coyotes, Cattle and Cactus cant help fix a truck.

The last time I did a long-distance run in a personal vehicle, it was in my truck ;Sweet Bay Area to Seattle and back in 2006. Truck didn't skip a beat.

Even with the rust being as bad as it is now, I wouldn't hesitate to take my truck on a long distance run...
