You are one of two guys who I've ever heard say good thing about his products though.

Although I disagree with two guys, because I spoke with more than that before I purchased. We'll go with two, and perhaps I am one of two guys that setup his products how he recommended, and did it correctly. I find that more plausible.

When I was messing with the timing on this thing... a single dimes width made the difference between it smoking nearly all of the time, and only smoking under WOT. The way I'm setup now I get no smoke at idle... barely any on a cold start, motor runs super smooth, no smoke under anything less than 3/4 throttle. So maybe I just got a magical set of Injectors and pump from him, or maybe I just have a healthy engine, and set it up right, who knows? But my videos don't lie.

I don't doubt you at all, it's just I have heard many times the horror stories than I have positive stories. Who knows why.

What I remember is that in the beginning Ken cooperated with the BOOBs on the old forum and designed a pretty decent upgrade for only a little more than stock costs. As his products got more popular he seemed to have problems with quality control. He made people irate because he would never answer the phone and people just got the feeling they had been shafted. The stage 1s have been tested on pop testers and when they work properly they work well to move a ton of fuel but this sacrifices spray pattern and atomization. Most people got a lot extra boost and useable fuel along with a bit rougher idle and a bit more smoke if they played with the truck than stock. There have been allegations that Ken is dishonest, and he'd probably deny them, I'm not going to take a side. I will say my experience with him is that he rebuilt an ATS nn gated turbo for me and did a good job on it....but very slowly, as well as a great deal on an Isspro boost gauge, but man I sure was thinking about the negative commentary in the 3 months or so he had my turbo kit, mainly because he was hard to get hold of and other members had been having trouble with him. IME, he wasn't dishonest with me but his customer service sucked. Now recall this was before it was accepted on the boards that very advanced members could do a turbo kit(seals bearings etc) and before we had Mel or Russ to offer these services. I personally would like to see Mel do well and DPS do well. The more people like these trucks the more they will stay on the road, the more stay on the road, the harder it will be for the gov't to force them off. More people will like and keep them if they use performance parts(cautiously) and competition will keep prices reasonable. Again, maybe competition from Mel forced Ken to clean his act up so he could stay in the game. I'd have either a DPS or a Moose pump, but if I wanted better than stock injectors it would be the Moose Misters hands down.

I'll chime in with my $.02.

I shelled out the money for a DPS Pump and injectors. I waited. And waited.

I installed them and timed my truck to spec. It ran like crap. It would only idle on 6 cylinders, and smoked like a old train. It did run ok on the highway, but not at all around town. EGT's were unmanageable, even with the extra boost gained by all that fuel. I called Ken and couldn't get an answer.

I still have the DPS pump on my truck and it's ok. It's seeped fuel from day one, and constantaly has my valley pan coated in goo. I clean it out when I change the oil, but it bugs me that it leaks. I took the injectors out and replaced them with new Delphi units, which solved all my driveability issues. I called Ken again, to try to return the injectors, but he never would answer. His guys would answer the phone, tell him it was me, and then say he wasn't available. It was the WORST customer service I've ever had.

I'd have bought a Moose Pump and Moose Misters from Mel months ago if I hadn't gotten this new job and got sidetracked with a relocation. Mel will DEFINITELY get my money when time allows.

I'm going to attribute that to your poor timing, or pump. Like i said... watch my videos. I have NONE of these issues.

I swapped a set of stock ones in didnt touch the timing and engine purred like a kitten

I was not impressed with how he dealt wit reklund's situation. In this case he really did mess up because 2 of Ryan's injectors were stuck shut. If they had been stuck open it would have been a bad day for Ryan. As it was he couldn't get a good luminosity reading because of the failure. My thinking is that anybody who offers a part like this should stand behind it when it doesn't work. If you ordered DPS injectors you should have known about the bad spray pattern and smoke going up, but not the absolute failure of the nozzle and then had to put up with customer no service.

LOL

well considering my IDI is obviously one of the most powerful on this board (and I'm about to unlock more), runs perfectly smooth, and I just recorded 21mpg on my first tank, which if you watched any of my videos, would see that I've been flogging it alot, and more than half of that tank with 2300lbs on the bed, your above comment couldn't be anymore wrong.

Considering your track record that I've heard about and seen in my short time here, you are probably the last person on the board that should be telling someone how to build an engine, and I'm really getting annoyed with your little nit-picking comments. Just because you are/were unable to get a good running IDI, doesn't mean I am also.

Your situation I have no doubt in my mind is attributed to your poor running engine and/or mechanical skills, this is not a personal attack, just a personal observation.

Do I think that everyone that has anything bad to say about DPS is a liar? Absolutely NOT. I am sure there have been some raw dealings due to how many complaints, but like previously stated, perhaps he has got his focus back on. I really don't give a darn if you like DPS or not, but don't try to discredit me and my experience so far, because thats exactly what you're trying to do.

If that isn't a personal attack, I don't know what is. Personally, a Moderator should delete that/your post.

The original Question was.

Did Diesel Performance Specialists go out of business? Because i tried going there website and it wouldn't come up. I wanted to try to get some stuff from them.

The answer's to that were just opinion's on DPS service and experience with that company.

If FORDIDI wants to do business with them, that is his prerogative.

Ok guys.....
let's take a deep breath and remember NO PERSONAL ATTACKS here.
NMB-
I'm glad to hear Ken is doing better and you're happy with the results of your purchase and installation. Only way to combat negative experiences is by doing good to your new customers and let them do the talking.
Dyoung-
everybody's input counts. even yours. but don't forget, like Ken, you have a reputation too.
everybody-
Ken is also a member here and he does check in now and then. I would have rather he made an attempt to explain himself in open forum, but he chose not to do so. Because he did go where no other IDI builder went before, his name is not posted in the "Hall of Shame" section due to his missteps. I'm enthused he's doing right to his new customers and he's letting them do the talking. That's the best advertising Ken can do.
