I understand these 7.3 motors came with stainless freeze plugs. I had brass plugs in my rebuild that poped out twice. The last time burning down my motor at 5200 miles on it. Tell me why you would use brass or stainless. I am looking for your thoughts on this. Thanks...

I'd use stainless because brass blew up your engine. I'd imagine stainless flexes less than brass under heating conditions.

Why not use steel? Or maybe, the actually IH part specified for this motor? LOL

Had a plug blow out of the first 7.3 I rebuilt. This is a bad thing because the temp gauge dosen't work without coolant in the motor. Lucky for me the smell of anti freeze and steam clued me in. Any way pulled the motor back out and pulled the plugs out, cleaned the holes very well this time and used red loctite and a heavy 1" driver and a BIG hammer to set them. No problems since. That was three motors ago. One more thing, I added a water pressure gauge, so if the motor is warm and has no pressure I know something is wrong. Steve
