All 5 speeds bad?

I'm lookin' at a 95 5speed 4x4 and read a lot about the 5 speed tranny. Are all 5 speeds doomed to a loose fifth gear nut and backyard fixes or is there a for sure pre failure fix? This truck has about 150 k miles on it.

Yes, there is the upgraded Nut for this I believe. About 1/2 to 1 hour job I heard.

the only time the 5th gear nut is an issue is if ya tow hard and strain or lug in 5th

new nut with 3 allen set screws is a pretty good fix

It's a hit and miss type of thing - if you want to do a strike before hand then fire up the welder.

Sorry bud. Couldn't help myself. The funny thing
is, is that the GM has an NV4500 and the nut stays put.
They are slightly different, but for the most part the same.

GM doesn't have anything in front of theirs
