The small pipe gives back pressure and Ford aimed to make these trucks last along with giving them low end torque but most of the XLT type trucks got a 4.10 gear so no real need for the low end. These exhaust add fuel mileage as well as performance and that's the real need for most of us.As I stated earlier it really woke mine up and sure am glad I did it.Now we all need to change the cross over underneath for a total package and I plan on getting mine done. The stock pipe is junk and mandrel bent is the way to go!
