That's the correct way. Can't use the OE fitting so we cut it off,weld on the new barb,slide the ferrel and hose over the new barb and crimp it. It's like new now

I think I may have found the correct hose.
The hose we want for a Factory turbo AC is Four seasons # 55314

Just to update the post, this is the correct part number for the hose assembly you need for a 1994 factory turbo IDI AC system. I have installed this on my truck and it works perfect
