you will never catch me in a mod engine, anything with a plastic factory intake is pure crapola.

It would get some looks pulling up to stop lights? One of these things is not like the other right?

There are strange looks and there are envious looks.

These here, don't get the strange ones.:D

I'd go with a smaller 4 cylinder like a Kubota 2300 or an Volkswagen AHL TDI before I ever thought about an Idi.

If your putting a domestic engine in a 280 then I see no problem putting a foreign engine in a ford.

I simply don't thing it will handle the weight or physically fit. But I like to be proven wrong sometimes.

Or maayybee a 4BT Cummins?...

I really think the IDI will fit once the shock towers have been (massaged:D) or removed entirely. I will however agree that weight and torque will definitely be the big issue with a 50 year old uni body car. Lol

Challenged accepted! :Thumbs Up

oah it will fit. the hardest part is making it strong enough for the torque.
AT A MINIMUM... you would need to 1/4 plate the entire front subframe, subframe connectors, and some reinforcement to the spring hangers.
headers will be a pita, and so will a transmission to clear the smaller c4
maybe a C6?
im more worried about the torque twisting the thing up.

I would like to run the C6. There is a C4 in the car now.

What kind of gearing in the 9 inch?

Adding the plate is a great idea.

its not only a great idea, its your only option besides making a complete frame if you want to do this swap

Do you think the stock front suspension set up will work after adding all the plate and steel? Car is currently running power steering and disc brakes. I want to add the coil springs made for big blocks, good shock absorbers for the weight and use coil helper springs/bags.

absolutely not. I would not trust those stamped steel control arms with anything but a hopped up small block.
mustang II is your best bet.

heres the scotts speed IFS I have for the 41...
I wouldn't even trust an IDI in a 75 year old full frame lol

This one poses a challenge, a light unibody car built for a 400LB engine package with a 1400lb torque monster. I'd attempt to put a frame under it, 3x4 2/4 wall at a minimum, and possibly check with a drag racer who runs a similar torque range for due diligence. I have seen a Duramax twin turbo in a 1970 Chevelle, it has a frame that was plated, and van suspension. Lots of pics should follow.

there's also a guy who used to run a duramax with 3 turbos in a 73 nova, that thing was sweet! novas are unibody cars, I believe chevelles are full frame cars.
