burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

We never ran more than 20% RUG when we ran nasty old dump truck oil. From the Quarry. More like tar, but they was hard times and we did what we had to do. W85 with fresh synthetic is more than enough dilution. I would not do more than 10% rug if the oil is clean, the temps are moderate, and you...

    diesel first timer

79Jasper gave you a good run down. Me? I just change run the piss out of a new truck for a while and then change the oil if I can't tell how many miles are on it. Yours looks to be well cared for.

1986 Ford Diesel Dually four door conversion truck by Kodiak. 6.9 diesel with 4 speed transmission. Rear wheel drive. Shows 64,xxx miles on odometer. Mechanical speedometer starts over after 99,000 but it doesn't look like this truck has turned over more than once. Cloth interior, fiberglass...

MN Mechanics. E350 Ambulance 93 Ford

Welcome Ricky. I would expect that an auto shop would have trouble with your rig on a lift even if they were willing to try. A local shop owner took that chance with his dually duramax with an aluminum flatbed. Nobody got hurt and he was able to buy a replacement arm for his lift. I'm not...

    Ether? Scary? Bad?

Unhook the signal wire for glow plugs to make absolutely sure that there is no glow. Back when I was using ether every day, I would crank the engine for a few moments, get out and give her a quick snort, jump in and fire it up and away we'd go. A lot of guys will warn against it and I...

    md historical tags

For many many years, you were prohibited from using the vehicle in any capacity other than shows, events, or "occasional" pleasure driving. Oh, and to and from a shop. But there was no penalty clause in the law. So you could do anything that you wanted on historical tags and the most the state...

Cheap Hitches, Big Loads, and Gravity

I do carry the proper license for this load, and have had that class of license since 1980. The landfill was closed at that time of day and it was all rock and dirt so the load was used for fill on a nearby project. Based on my seat feel of this load, I believe that it would have scaled at or...

Cheap Hitches, Big Loads, and Gravity

I bought my first new trailer in 1999. The first one that I owned with a 2 5/16" ball. The dealer was tightening the ball onto the head and snapped the threaded shank of the ball. He wasn't that big of a guy and the wrench was not that long. It must have been defective. Other than that, I've...

Cheap Hitches, Big Loads, and Gravity

It is a Reese brand hitch. I cannot find a data plate plate on it and neither can I find it in a catalog online that would tell me what it is rated for. This is the first heavy load that I have hauled with this particular truck and certainly not the heaviest load hauled over the years. I...

Cheap Hitches, Big Loads, and Gravity

It happened at the dump site so I drove to the unloading area and emptied the box. With the load off of the trailer, the hitch is now several inches off the ground and doesn't make that horrible scraping noise anymore. The tongue was heavy enough that I twisted the safety chains one turn to...

Cheap Hitches, Big Loads, and Gravity

Do you all have those mini roll-off dumpster where you are? I pull a few on occasion and this morning picked one up that had some concrete and dirt in it. I had painted lines on the inside of the can so the guys would know where the over load level was. It was loaded about right. They had it...

86 F-250 wandering and steering way to sensitive

How thorough, recent, and complete is the front end lube job? I was saving up for an all new front end under my '86 2 wd when I decided to grease it. Now it drives like a new one. For the price of a tube of grease.

    Need advice/inspiration

What is another truck body with title worth? What is a clean cab worth? I have a truck that I bought for the wheels (because I couldn't find any alcoas). Then harvested the engine for another truck. I can't find the pictures right now but I remember the underside being pretty clean. 88...

    7.3 IDI Bogging Issue

Does the shrader valve on the filter head spit a bunch of fuel when you depress it at idle? A fresh fuel filter is my first choice for your symptoms and then maybe a lift pump. The surge would indicate air but filters and lift pumps are both cheap.

    OBS stroke value.

I think that if you can write a check and not miss it that it would be an excellent deal. It is most definitely a lot of truck for the money and if you took that same check to a car lot today, what would you end up with? Not much. The downside is when something happens to it and the insurance...

    How much to haul/tow

I don't like it but I have crossed the scales at 22k pounds a time or two lately. The crew cab handles it a bit more stable on the highway than the 250 2wd does. Your ext cab 4x4 with trailer should tare at 11 or 12 k with a 14' low deck dump trailer behind it. 10,000 pound cargo is...

Thanks for the share. I just got this '86 registered legal yesterday and it is very helpful to see what the ratings are. There are no real surprises but the Ford Factory Specs are good to have.

    Bullnose/Slantnose Diesel Picture Thread

1985 F250 two wheel drive. C6. 113,000 original miles. It's just a nice little truck. The push button radio still works although I haven't tried the cassette player yet.
