    86/87 swap

I'm considering building another project truck and have some tech questions. I have an 87 250 4x4. Looking at an 86 350 DRW 4x2. Will my 87 front axle and steering bolt right in the 86?? Will my C6 trans case bolt to the ZF5 trans?? I don't know if the body was the only change for the 87 model.

    NOT FOR DEISELS???

Sherwin, I know, I know. I would like a suspension lift much better but I need a little more clearance and the almighty dollar prevailed. LOL

    NOT FOR DEISELS???

By the way, the plow was on a 2006 F250 'Stroke. The mounting bracket is much different than my '87. If I do decide to use the plow it looks like the best thing to do is spend $600 and buy the one specific for my truck. Be lots of modification involved with this one.

    NOT FOR DEISELS???

ironworker, I wondered if the already heavy front end might be the issue. It has the MinuteMount 2 system so everything but the mounting brackets come off when it's unhooked. Maybe some helper springs and I'll be ok. As far as the body lift and the plow goes, they're two unrelated projects. I...

    NOT FOR DEISELS???

I recently got a really good deal on a Fisher snow plow and I am looking into doing a 2"-3" body lift on my 250. On both projects I see in manufactures notes "Not for diesels". Any idea why?? Am I missing something?? Why would it matter if the truck is a diesel??

    Fuel return regulator??

That's what my original plan was. But after looking at it I noticed the 6.9 uses 3 bolts at one end and the 7.3 uses 4 bolts. My 6.9 looks like it may have been weeping a little oil anyway. The bottom was pretty oil soaked. I looked up gaskets for it and the set comes with 3 gaskets. Looks like...

    Fuel return regulator??

Yes on the engine mounts. I just changed both of them to be sure. The issue I just ran into is the oil cooler. The are very different as far as the filter end and the bolt pattern on the other end. I'll have to use the filter from the 6.9 and the other end from the 7.3. Never done this before...

    Fuel return regulator??

I was looking at the engine from the back. It is #4 [E350]. What is the purpose of this? So the engine will run fine or better without it?

    Fuel return regulator??

I'm swapping my 6.9 to a 1992 7.3. Just a few changes, nothing major. Oil cooler, engine mounts, few brackets, etc. My question is on this '92 engine [ out of an E350 ambulance ] at the injector end of #3 fuel line there is what may be a regulator of some sort. The 6.9 does not have one and I...

    Ambulance 7.3

I think it was a serpentine belt set up. I'll probably stay with my OEM stuff if I can so I'll let you know what I can part with. I'll probably go up one flat on the pump. That with the Banks should be all I need. Didn't know if it had a little bigger cam or anything like that. Can I use that...

    Ambulance 7.3

It is an "E" series {van}, I only saw one MONSTER alternator. Luckily I still have the 6.9 so I should have all mounts, brackets, etc. The idle hours did concern me but it looks clean as a pin. And I'm keeping my new long block 7.3 until I make sure this is a good one. It's a '92 so it had a E4OD...

    Ambulance 7.3

I just bought a complete 7.3 with 21,000 miles [???] It came from a '92 ambulance. Doesn't look to be many issues to putting it in my '87 truck/C6. Would this engine have different specs than any other 7.3 ? No issues putting the Banks on it ?

    Best Overdrive Unit???

What I hope to end up with is leave it in "direct" until I get to highway speed ( 55 or more ) and then hit an "0D" switch. Just use "OD" when needed. If that's not going to work I may want to go E4OD or 5 speed. I just like the reliability of the C6 and not have the expence and work of changing...

    Best Overdrive Unit???

I'm just needing the extra highway gear. At 65 mph she's really wound up. Also, my truck is an 87 extra cab. Will I get lucky and a regular cab driveshaft go right in or will I need to get mine cut?
