    Russ could you please elaborate on what spring modification you are referring to? I have searched and cannot find except for your occasional mentions that it needs to be done. I would like to try it on my existing fan clutch to see if it will help.

    IDI Engine Removal

    On these motors, because of the weight, I like to pull the core support out and also remove the front wheels and drop the truck down on blocks so I don't have to raise the motor any higher than I have to. If you do it this way, you do not have to remove the hood.

    The most important thing is to get it seated all the way into the pump. To check this, see if you can get your fingers around the outside of the conveter to where you can touch the backside (closest to the trans) of the converter with your fingertips. If you can, you do not have it all the way...

    How is such a clutch disc failure caused by it being SMF vs DMF? I am not getting that part.

    Go with the LUK kit with the SMF. I did not even notice a diff in tranny noise when I did mine. There is a little bit of gear rollover when going real slow in a high gear, but every ZF I ever had does that. I don't think it's due to the SMF.
