Thanks for all the input, good info.
I just bought him 2 early Christmas presents:
500amp battery jump starter (not sure what their called exactly) in case he needs to crank it more than normal or drains the battery
(and)
Mr Heater Portable Buddy propane heater that is supposedly...
My son is leaving for Anchorage this week via the Ferry to Haines & then the ALCAN to Anchorage.
I'm new to the 7.3 PSD & so is he so we thought we'd throw this question to the experts.
Without breaking the bank, what parts or other misc would you carry in the truck that pertains to the...
They're in New Albany, MS
We did switch tanks & that didn't matter; I guess he filled up sometime prior to it happening.
If I can get a location of the fuel pump I plan to have him pull a hose & crank it & see if he's gatting any diesel, after that I guess will be up to the diagnostic...
The tach does move when he's cranking the motor, could it still be the CPS-if it was only that easy?
He is currently moving from Georgia to Alaska (US Army) & he only got as far as Mississippi & the truck just died while driving highway speed. He was sleeping, friend was driving, and I didn't...
Yes, It is a 7.3 PSD, so I guess it is a mechanical pump & if it's mechanical I'm assuming no inertial shutoff - no real need to have one.
It is odd that the site I found on line listed a inertia switch for a F250 PSD with a electric fuel pump - there mistake I'm sure.
Thank you,

PSD!
According to one of the parts sites it has an electric fuel pump and an inertia shut off; I don't know, I drive an 87' 6.9.
Just fishing for ideas why it just quit & this was just one more option, maybe; tough to troubleshoot when you're thousand miles away.

I need to know where this switch is located? Is it really Red?
My son is stuck on the freeway & I thought this is the last resort before being stuck several states away until Monday & a mechanic could get to it.

I live in Coos Bay.
It starts fine & transmission fluid is full.
Thanks for the info on the pulse timing adapter.
I'm taking it by a tranny shop today for a look see. I read some posts regarding modulator stripe color & there were several answers - green, red, purple, black - which is...
I'm not real sure; when the AC didn't work, within the last 2-3 yrs, we really noticed it. Over the last 12 years I've only put about 60,000 on the truck & most of those were short trips. But when we did get it out on the highway it gets warm, the access panel is hot to the touch (had the carpet...
I have not checked the timing - I'm debating the cost of buying a pulse adapter as mentioned on this site or taking it to a shop.
I know that could be the culprit & it is certainly the easiest next step but I figured because I hadn't adjusted it during the swap it should be fine - poor...
Revisiting issue regarding lack of power
Recap - Donor truck swap of non turbo 6.9 that was in a 86' F250 w/ a T-19 into my 87' F350 C6 that had a 6.9 that blew a head gasket. Prior to the swap the donor truck seemed to run well & had a lot more uphill power then my 87' just before it blew...
Part Number
Rolled into the Ford parts dept this morning & the guy went right to the bin & pulled the part; didn't even have to give him year/make/model - I guess he's pulled this part before. :D
Not sure if anyone has posted the part number but thought it might be helpful...
All Done - Well Except for the Part
Found all the info as explained by post above. Got the tilt mechanism apart & it exposed what I needed to get to - Thanks for the great site/replies.
Just need to get the part & put it all back together.
What is the best lubrication/grease to use when...
More Info
I found my own problem but still need some help.
After further review the Pot Metal piece was broken. On my 87' tilt wheel there is a long piece that moves along the shaft that rides in a guide - that piece was broken off.
As I was removing it from the column I was also able to...
