Don't bend the sensor. You will damage it.

That's what I thought. I think my best bet is to space it out with other fittings or find one that will connect to the Stewart Warner extension wiring.

Does anyone know the approx. inside diameter of the 7.3L N/A exhaust manifolds?

Just drill and tap it on the underside of the EM at # 8 cyl close to the down pipe flange, should be plenty of room there. If you only have 17" of wire length, your gonna need an extension, only use the same wire as the one on the pyro. Yellow colored wire is the positive.
If your gonna use the 1/8" NPT make sure the probe can go thru it.

Turns out the threads are 1/4" npt, so the hole will be at least that big. Only extension harness SW has is 5 foot and en route directly from Stewart Warner.

Just got off the phone with SW tech support. They don't make a shorter probe and the guy said I wouldn't get an accurate reading if I space it out with another fitting. He suggested an ISSPRO R650 ( http://www.carid.com/isspro/thermoc...pn-r650.html?gclid=CNm6ju2q5skCFQ8vaQodGTUJ-g ).

This thermocouple connects differently, so I guess I'm going to have to wait for my extension harness to get here before I figure out how it connects to the back of the gauge. The gauge itself is on back order and should ship out on the 28th...

So first I have to see the connector on the back of the gauge. Then I need to see if there is a way to connect the ISSPRO harness to the Stewart Warner guage. Then I'll need to return ship the SW thermocouple and extension harness to Summit Racing.

I specifically bought the SW Deluxe series gauge since it's the only series that has a pyro, tach, speedo, oil pressure, water temp, voltmeter, air pressure, fuel level and fuel pressure gauges that all match. Plus they don't have wide or protruding bezels and I eventually plan to build custom dashes in both trucks with all matching gauges (sheet metal for Bruiser, wood for the Enterprise).

EDIT: In searching for an extension harness for the ISSPRO thermocouple, I found an article reassuring me that I can just cut the weatherpack connector off one end of the SW extension harness and splice the leads to the leads from the thermocouple. Tightly of course, and with heat shrink. So I'll only have to return the SW thermocouple. Looks like I'll be calling Summit Racing Monday to do that.

Got the ISSPRO pyrometer today! Great timing since my morning was spent rebuilding a section of fence torn up by the wind last night. Arrived just after I finished working/cussing excessively.

It's just over 2 1/2" from the last thread to the tip. It states that the probe is 2 1/4" long but from the base of the fitting to the tip is right about 2 1/8" :D

On the clamping nut there should be a Ferrule that tightens to hold the pyro in place, loosen it before screwing the pyro into the manifold, then tighten it back up just enough to hold the pyro in place, to much squeeze might ruin the pyro.

Sure is. I'll just put the NPT fitting in first and then insert the probe and tighten the compression fitting.

Looks like my thermocouple/pyro system will be 100% ISSPRO. Stewart Warner still hasn't shipped out my thermocouple extension harness or the pyro itself. Turns out they are having tooling problems with the pyro gauges. So I just canceled my order via Summit Racing and ordered a ISSPRO R605 and 8' harness from Diesel Manor. ISSPRO is owned/produced by the same company as SW and the guage looks like it will match my other SW gauges.

Btw, there is a older ISSPRO pyrometer guage on ebay from an old KW truck and has the Kenworth emblem on the gauge face. Auction is up for another 2 days ;p

Isspro Thermocouple install: "R" drill bit and 1/8"-27 NPT tap. Put in da thermocouple and adjust it so the tip is in the middle of the exhaust flow ;Sweet

Be careful how far "around" on the manifold you put the thermocouple if you put it at #8 like I did. It is very close to the firewall of my truck as it sits now. I did it while the manifold was off and it about didn't fit once installed.

Mine will be installed with the engine in the truck and mainfold on. Going to try to hit #8 from directly underneath or parallel with the ground if I can't swing that (fenders will be off). My probe is the 2.25" long one. Going to attempt to measure the opening from the hole I cut to whatever is on the other side and set my probe depth accordingly.

On a different note, I think whenever Bruiser gets rebuilt with the custom fabbed dash, she'll get all ISSPRO gauges across the board. Some pointer colors don't match up in the "heavy duty" series, but all the guages I'd need/want are there. Not like I'll be staring at them for hours at a time anyway. She'll be mostly off road while the Enterprise will stay mostly on road.

I'm glad you ended up going ISSPRO. That is the brand I carry, because only ISSPRO pyrometers have in-cab temperature compensation. All pyrometers from competing makers are calibrated at 70 degrees, so unless it is 70 degrees in your cab, they are all inaccurate.

I thought I had posted this before, but can't find it.
These are the ones that I use. Nice folks to deal with.
They have probes and meters for almost any application, and reasonable pricing.

These are the gauges that I use:
http://thesensorconnection.com/egt-...ite-pmd-series-mini-meter-pyrometer-peak-hold
They ARE accurate. At any in-cab temperature :)

The gauges take a little getting used to. Grew up glancing at analog gauges for EGT's while
pulling loads, and the numbers make you have to think about it a bit.

That's good to know!

I may go with the superlite of they are so being made/sold for that price when I finally rebuild Bruiser with an IDIT. Didn't even consider it for the Enterprise since the only place to put it were I could see it easily on the bricknose dash would be right in my sight path and be an obstruction. When Bruiser gets a diesel, I plan to do a custom sheet metal dash and could mount it flush in the dash with the other round guages. I want to eventually do away with the factory dash/guages in both trucks and all matching guages where I want them. Easier access inside the dash and a cleaner look. Long way off though, but I do like that the superlite guages have a warning light option and with the guage and mounting box, it looks like it would still be cheaper then a comparable round guage with a needle, let alone a round digital guage.
