And BTW, if you put a JD innit, it'll only be good enough to hide in the weeds just like the tractors did when the big mean red ones drove by. And John deere had so many engines cuz they can't handle THE POWER!! IH all the waaay! ;Sweet:backoff:rotflmao:hail

I guess I would be another one of those Pipe-dreaming-new-guys you're talking about. I've been on here for more than a year, but didn't really pay attention until recently. But thanks you guys for all the help and brainstorming that got my "motor runnin'" (bad pun).

Every concept and product came about from somebody who had an idea, and that gets forgotten a lot.

Without the dream, there can't be a reality.

If nobody had crazy ideas, we would still be driving flatheads with carburetors

Come to think of it, if Henry Ford gave into the naysayers and complainers, we wouldn't be driving right now.

And remember, the dreamers and the crazy folks change the world.

I like those who think and speak words like your quotes. I respect and admire those who put those words into action. It takes money and more importantly.....time to put into action to way you're thinking. Put your money where your mouth is.The OG's here aren't "afraid" to push the envelope, many are faced with the reality that family obligation and reliable transportation come first. If there's money and time left over, we'll push the envelope. Let's face it, as common as it is now, intercooling an IDI was not common 7 years ago. So is throwing in hydroboost. Now we have both and Moosepumps too. Want my eternal respect like how I hold F350camper and Jaybee at? Go do something, take lots of pics and post. I grew up around automotive passions, heard too many benchracers and handed them their ***** with my stupid boring old Buick GS for years. I didn't do anything special to my '92, I took availible technology and bolted it together and drive it like I just stole it.

It is good to see the number of new members. My thought's too is that these trucks, dollar for dollar are a good buy and there's alot of them out there. ;Sweet

I too like the trying to improve something.

Heck I shoved a 351W into an 88 Ranger many years before they started building the conversion kits for them.:D

It just takes time and money both of which for me are limited with a wife and 2 kiddies and I like the idea to keep my IDI's reliable while improving them.

I once knew a Hurst Olds 442 with 3 fat kriegers and a skinny donut and a busted taillight that could put a Z28 camaro to shame on the blacktop...But I like your idea. I myself am prone to bench racing, but when it come down to it, i've seen a Buick Century on a County road hold it's own against a 5 speed 4 banger mustang and a Mercedes 300SE.
This is kindof like the HOT ROD article a while back, describing the definition of a true hot rod, anything somebody modifies to make it different or better than it was stock. Isn't that what Oil Burners is all about? Making improvements, perfecting original, modifying the unmodified?
I mean, were would we have come up with ideas like, super coupe turbo systems, hydroboost, LUK flywheels, custom ground cams, headers, and all that other stuff without the collective brainstorming of several different people with several different ideas?

Wow...kinda got on my own little tangent there. Sorry if I kinda rambled on a little bit.

I think truely the most important thing about this site is its all free to anyone that can read. Ask a question and get plenty of answers. Theres nothing secret here. Nobody hides anythiing. Everything I have done to my motor is free for the asking. What I have learned that doesn't work gets plenty of posts too. My concern is keeping the money in your pockets and your truck on the road... As cost effectively as I can. Why go to the dealership and pay them... Most of you can do it yourselves with some information here... No dealership will give out this free info thats for sure... Some do come and some do go... Thats evolution of this site... Its a lifestyle... Not a truck....

Newbie responds

Is great to see all the new members that have joined over the past 3-4 mo's.

Anyways, Welcome to all the newer Members, and keep the idea's flowin!

I'm one of the above-mentioned new members.

I just joined this site last week after picking up a one family-owned 1989 Ford F-250 HD with an IDI in it. I travel around for work a bit and currently own a motorhome, but want to change to a truck and trailer set up. The deal I got on this Ford was good enough I didn't think I could pass it up. I'm a member of a motorcycle forum and asked if anyone knew much about these trucks/engines. One of the guys mentioned this site, said "the absolute best site for Fords with IH diesels in them."
I've got a lot of ideas and learned a lot so far. Of course, want I want to do versus what I can do financially are two different things.

I think Gary hit the nail. Most of us here know what works, and what doesn't. We all battle the performance/economy aspect. Personally, I can't have My rigs down for modifications during the summer mo's. They need to work, or they go bye-bye.

This winter is different, the 7.3 is coming out for some freshening up.

I'd love to see a CAT engine in one of these trucks, anybody know if it has been done?
FYI, Dave Haven (on the "other" site hissssssss) has a 1970 F-350 with a 3208 Cat stuffed in it. He posted these pictures way back when, and I saved them and thought I'd add to the discussion :)

It's definitely interesting to see the new blood and the new ideas. It'll be even more interesting to see the ideas come to fruition ;Sweet I remember being young and dumb LOL when I first started on ford-diesel.com (the predecessor to TDS, where most of the long-term members on here started out) back in 2000....and I'm only a few months from having been around this group 10 years now  and somehow I haven't gotten myself drummed out yet

Mel, I've got a 5.9/360 in one of my trucks.....
I got it because it is fun to drive and the fast/easy cheap/power

Course it's a FE, it it *may* not be displacing 360ci anymore.

Dave Haven didn't build that truck. His uncle did. Dave got it after his uncle passed on. dave also has a rifle and I mean a rifle... Its about 6 ft long... Bolt action 50 caliber BMG.... His quote is.... " thats not a gun... This is a gun".... Thats a nice idea of a Cat in an older Ford but lots of work went into the build....

Simply put this site is more than the best site for information-it is also the best technical"family site on the web".
