2001 F250 7.3 Sterling 10.5.
Investigating a rotor runout problem on drivers rear. Indicated the axle flange at 0.008” runout, when the rotor is installed it makes it 0.012 - 0.014” runout. Clearly out of spec. I stacked shims to get most of it out (Temporary).
Do I need a new axle with that high of runout? (I would think so) Surely the bearing wont do that. Am I missing/dont know something?
The passenger side used one 0.003” shim to bring the rotor runout to 0.0005”. Done.

If thats what I need to fix this, I dont see any Ford axles for sale, I guess use a Dorman, or other aftermarket? Suggestions? Not going to buy used when a new one is $150. Dont want to install another bad one.

thanks for the help
Tom

For those that this might help in the future:
Installed the Dorman axle, measured runout at the largest diameter of the rotor is now at 0.002”
That did the trick.
I did inspect the bearing for play and roughness, there was no appreciable play in the bearing And smooth as glass.
Hopefully this helps someone in the future..
