I'd never seen this particular size of wheel until today:

It may be kinda hard to tell what size that is, so here's a closeup:

I'd heard of 16.5, 19.5 and 22.5, but 17.5 is a new one on me.

This was the spare tire on one of our reel trailers in the laydown yard. I walked by and happened to notice the size of the wheel printed on the tire and thought I'd snap a couple of pics. The wheels kinda look like they were made in someone's garage. If you look closely you can see that the bead around the inside of the wheel was laid by hand.

I've replaced a few 17.5's on some of the Atlas Van Lines trailers that I used to service. Try getting a wheel like that to balance

a majority of 17.5's are for low-profile trailer duty. think double drop trailers or equipment trailers like Murray or Cozad. The only other area of use for the 17.5's is for class 5-6 Nissan, UD and Isuzu straight trucks.
that wheel definitely looks crude but it sure is built thick;Sweet

The '68 Chevy C/20 that my uncle bought new came factory equipped with 17.5 wheels. After a near disasterous towing mishap where a tire got low and rolled off of the rim while he was towing, he switched to 16s and never looked back. 16s are also MUCH easier to find when you're on the road.
