    300 SDL Loosing Power

My 81 SD is a total dog with the A/C on also. Turn it off and it runs great. I always figured it was just because they are so low powered before the turbo spools.

    Heating up WMO for filtering

Flux core will do all right on heavier guage stuff, but thinner metal like the drums are you can't get it hot enough to melt the flux out properly. You will have problems welding things that need to be sealed without gas. I started with a flux/gas machine running flux then bought a bottle and...

    Heating up WMO for filtering

You would be money ahead to just drag the drum to a weld shop and have them weld in a bung or 2 for you then just use water heater elements. Elements are only about $10. A weld shop would probably only charge you a 20 or a half rack of beer if you find the right one.

    Hydraulic oil?

I use Tellus-32 at up to 70% and love it. Used it all winter long pulling the sleds at 50% I don't shut down and start up on diesel either. So who do you work for? Used to be a hoghead myself. BNSF

    sludge in filtered wmo

How long are you letting it settle before its filtered. My WMO has been sitting in gallon jugs for atleast a year, then I pour the top 3/4 or so into my filters. Then I don't pump from the bottom of my tank either. Someday I will pump the crud out of the bottom of my tank and dispose of it.

    WMO and water

I heated 55 gallons of hydraulic oil about 5 gallons at a time to boil off the water. It works the same as WVO. WMO should be no different. Whats the flash point of motor oil? Got to be 400 or so? Not sure but its higher than the 250ish you will need to heat it to.

    New to me 300sd

Drove the car a bit today after I adjusted the tranny. Shifted great. Until I parked it after a 15 mile or so trip. Now it is having issues. Put the car in reverse and it acts normal(for it atleast) put the car in drive and it seems to be in high gear. Manually shift it and it will drop down...

    New to me 300sd

Wow. Drove the car about 40 miles yesterday. What a smooth, nice driving car. This is by far the best ride I have ever had. I need to do some adjusting to the trans as it doesn't shift quite right but otherwise its all go.

    breaking emulsification oil/water

Yea thats what I did too. Just heated mine on my woodstove in the shop. About 4 gallons at a time. I just kept cooking till it quit boiling, assuring all the water was gone, not just seperated. Then dumped it hot right in my storage tank.

Thanks guys, I have checked it out a bit over there. Well the B2 piston replacement was a success. Got it all zipped back up last night. Drove it around for about 2 miles and it runs great. Now I need to go get the plates for it so I can actually drive it.

    New to me 300sd

So I have been looking around a bit about this b2 piston problem. I come across the dieselgiant website. Lots of information. So I decide I will buy the kit from him. Order it, get an email back from him that says this So I email him back and ask if he has any more information because I will...

notes and thoughts on my WMO filtration rig

I think the synthetic doesn't bond the crap like dino oil does. If you let full synthetic sit for a month or 2 all the crap settles out and it looks like fresh clean oil. Dino oil doesn't do that.

Injection pump fuel feed line alternative

Yea, the fitting on my 84 is 1/4"NPT also. I just changed mine to compression fittings and bent up a piece of 3/8 staiinless tubing. Took maybe 10 minutes and less than $5 for the fittings. Already had the tubing. I did the same thing from my lift pump to the filter after changing to the...

    New to me 300sd

Well, apparantly I have an early model trans and the B2 piston is not as cheap as the later ones. Dealer qouted me $124 and it was $178, so with the other parts I got it was $209 and I still need a filter, gasket and oil. Oh well parts are ordered. Hopefully be here next week. Got to get the...

    Waste oil problems

Got mine from Home depot for less than $20 each. Looks different but the same thing and takes the same filters.

    pumps

There's a guy on here that uses a ford 460 oil pump attached to a starter motor. Says it pumps some ungodly amount per minute. I beleive it. One heck of a pump, junk yard parts are cheap. I am thinking of using that setup to push from my holding tank to my vehicle tank.

    New to me 300sd

Well, its confirmed. B2 piston is broke just like all the ones I see on the internet. Looks like about $200 for parts including new filter and oil. Still with that, water pump and all still only in the car $750. Not too bad. Scored 70 gallons of free deisel fuel yesterday too. :D

    New to me 300sd

So after a bit of research, my car shows signs of the B2 piston problem in the trans. Sounds like its fairly simple to fix, but man the parts are not cheap. Probably going to rip it apart tonight. Tires go on it tomorrow, so the trans and oil pan is the only things keeping it off the road. ;Sweet

Hey thanks Warden for the hood hinge drain tip. It was full of crap. Found a tag in the door cubby with the name, location and date of original sale. Funny. The car never left town. Sold right here in spokane. Out of the 10+ cars that I have cared to or been able to track the history of...

    New to me 300sd

Went to the bearing shop. No dice. They had a bearing with the shaft 5/8" on both sides, but these have a larger diameter shaft on the pulley side then it steps down to 5/8" when it comes out of the flange. Thought about making a new flange. Just not worth it. Autozone $43 for a new one. Looks...

    hydrogenated oils

Anyone use partially hydrogenated oils for making their Bio? I found a good reliable source for about 10 gallons per week, but I am fairly certain from talking to him that its partially hydrogenated. I am going to check it out later this week. Seems like I get mixed reviews on it. Some say stay...

    Electric Fans

I have 4 fans on my IDI. Seems to work fine. Have not done any heavy pulling in the hot of the summer but otherwise is fine. I use my truck 95% of the time in the winter on the highway(Snowmobile trips) so it makes sense for my application. I have a temp sensor in the lower hose that...

Yea, I don't really plan on doing any upping the boost. At least not now. Just want to know what it should be for troubleshooting if I need to when I get it back together. Heres a photo of the pump apart. The flange will still need pressed off the shaft. Waiting to bring it to work to press...

    New to me 300sd

I am rebuilding my water pump. This is one of the few times when your water pump is bad that time is not a factor. So what the heck I will rebuild it myself. I am amazed that I got it apart without breaking the impeller, being cast iron. The bearing is still good, but the shaft is pitted since...
