buying fittings for the IP from the hardware store?

wondering if the thread sizes for the inlet and return of the injection pump are a known/common size or if i need adapters specific to the pump. trying to get stuff together in short notice to get a parts motor running if at all possible

    What is this bracket for?

factory jack as said before, and the handle/crank is strung across the top of the core support

    Traveller Smurf (Cubey's '89 van)

fan clutch and thermostat are both motorcraft but theyre like OE aged. Ive been too paranoid about moving the thermostat housing and having it leak (again) to change the thermostat from the temporary i threw in. But i also know my original radiator is like a 3rd plugged up and needs to be...

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

fiddled with the pumps timing and lined the marks all the way up true this time, the only benefit to leaving it there is its easier to start cold again and its quieter. EGTs went up 300-400 degrees across the board and i lost power. But im sure some of my problems come from whatever that timing...

    7.3 IDI wont start

if it hard starts in the morning but starts fine afterwards youve likely got the same issues i have of air intrusion, o rings inside the umbrellas atop the injectors for the return lines as well as the return lines themselves are highly suspect if theyve been as much as looked at sideways, same...

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

are the 6.9 wrist pins really that big of a problem even on something like a 130cc pump?

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

that 7.3 has sat uncovered in weather for about 8 years so far so definitely gonna take some work to bring back, same with any motor around his yard though. I'm honestly a little pump poor with how many IDI projects I'm running myself into, trying to focus on making the one in the road legal...

Running an F700 tach in an F250 IDI

ive got the sensor housing, as well as a sensor with the wires cut off flush on the sensor.... oh well it makes a good plug until i get the tach and sensor, and wire it back in. Half this trucks wiring is custom now anyways

Running an F700 tach in an F250 IDI

Will the 35 x 100 RPM tach from the big trucks work in our pickups on the stock sender? if they do, where is the factory wiring usually ran from and were there trucks that didnt have said wiring? ...im concerned that in my attempt to fix the rats nest of wiring ive snipped and removed the tach wires

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

The advances condition is poor at best. Wouldnt surprise me that much if it was seized up. Something ive been working on modifying/repairing on a future pump, but also with the condition of this motor it may not happen till the next motors in it

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

I do have the bigger outlet housing and downpipe, retarding the timing results in better power, but significantly higher egts, ie cant cruise above 55 unloaded hot

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

I dont mind crazy, long as its cheap (doing it myself over paying someone else) On the side note of crazy im looking for a way to make the hole the fuel plungers sit in bigger so I can cut down and reuse a pair of cam rollers as larger plungers for more fuel, seriously doubt a simple drill bits...

    7.3 IDI wont start

(If its got one) the gear reduction could be gummed up causing drag, in addition to bum bearings and brushes, but unfortunately another common issue is cooked windings causing resistance = slow cranking

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

I can heat it right up to 1300+ if i leave my foot in it, but i only have so many more idis laying around Oh the plungers are different even in the 7.3 NA? that gives me an idea for the next budget pump at least. And yeah i agree that 7/16 head bolts are laughable on the 6.9. Some backstory on...

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

The whole trick to running the IDIs is cost effectiveness, i looked into the 7.3 but the cavitation problems worry me, especially with sleeving being as expensive as it is. If the price for the IDI stuff ends up too high id be throwing money into what otherwise could have been a VE 12 valve...

    7.3 IDI wont start

Starter, check the wiring to said starter as well as the connections to the batteries, and either make sure you got at least 6 good glowplugs or coversely with no glowplugs and in a hurry you can give it a (very very faint) whiff of ether,(no glowplugs for at least 5 minutes before doing this)...

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

It doesnt have to be this IDI, I have a fresher IDI im studding and a core im throwing together with shaved pistons plus studs. Not in the biggest hurry but 55-65 without leaving it mashed on the flats would be cool

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

im looking for as much overhead as possible both for hauling and for power potential, even with this pump maxed out its a slug, 0-60 is in the range of 17 seconds and i dont even know how its gonna do with a loaded car trailer behind it. The plan is to (at least once as necessary, potentially...

cruising near governor limit its hanging out at the 1050 mark, (probe is smack in the middle of the drivers side manifold) while going up the 9% to shingletown at 55 mph (2300-2400 RPM) it holds out at 950 and creeps up slowly till i back out. timing is set by trial and error for the coolest...

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

On the same note as the exhaust is the turbo restriction on the (assumed) 093 known to cause more heat than an alternative turbo? I know the turbo that we put on this motor has a bigger exhaust snail than the old turbo and that seems to help, but is there any known upside to an even bigger turbo...

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

the intercooler plan is already in the works, is there anything i can do physically internally to the motor/pump (or another motor) beyond turning the fuel down? Im all about labor over cost, all mods are on the table and the next motor will already have studs and shaved pistons.

High pyrometer readings on 6.9L IDIT

Hello Oilburners! im new and looking for as much insight on these IDIs as i can lay hands on. Ive got a 1984 F250 with a 1986 6.9L IDI with what I hope is an ATS 093 turbo (mismatched parts, at least the airbox and exhaust of an 093) and im looking for tricks to knock the EGTs down on it. ive...
