    I would just seal the whole thing. Front main, rear main, oil cooler, Etc. Might want head studs or valve springs if planning for turbo. Bearings should be replaced. For $200 ish it is well worth replacing them

    I got great clearance with the new rod bearings I picked up. The not keystoned rings I had were not able to fit in the groove on the new pistons. I was able to find that the pistons said to use rings s42104.030

    Old ring is .1125 New is .1105 Hard to see but the the old ring is beveled and the new pistons are beveled too. Small side of the old beveled ring is .0890

    Well tonight I got the block painted. I also did the crankshaft polish. Doing some measuring for clearances. How important is the wrist pin clearances? New pistons and wrist pins.

    Block is now masked off and soaking in easy off oven cleaner. I will be painting the block red, oilpan gray, and heads gray. Also bearings, pistons, rings and valve springs all showed up.

    Thanks guys. I was able to borrow a spring compressor from a friend luckily worked great. Only did one head but no play in any of the valve guides. Does anyone know the difference between positive valve seals and normal seals?

    Alright in the next few days I will be cleaning up the block for paint and polishing the crankshaft. For polishing that crankshaft. What is the recommended sandpaper grit? 800,1000? Also does it matter what metal polish is used

    Let the engine building begin. Today we got the block on the stand and got it all honed. There is some very minimal vertical scratching that is barely felt by fingernail. Unfortunately I forgot to get pics of that, but here is the crosshatch.
