Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

Banning vehicles that left the factory meeting pollution specifications at the time they left the factory is what I'm against. If there was a class action lawsuit I think it could win. If the extremists prevail a ban on all fossil fuel vehicles is coming.

Holley Red are garbage, what else quickly?

The quality of all parts is sinking to new lows.

    Opps wrong pistons

The mail man just dropped a set of rings off. Keystone on the top and second rings. Oil ring also fits as it should. I'll say this is a win. I'll hopefully have a complete set for all 8 pistons by the weekend.

    Opps wrong pistons

I just got off the phone with Rob @ Mahle. He said S42104 is the correct ring for this application. Like I said I have one set on order now Should be here late in the week.

I Need the fuel pump drive gear

Well I received the fuel pump eccentric, and it is installed. I'll keep an eye out for a spare in case I or someone else needs one in the future

    Opps wrong pistons

I will give them a call tomorrow. Those rings are quite a bit cheaper on RockAuto

MAHLE / CLEVITE S42140 MAHLE / CLEVITE S42104 I ordered them last night and should ship tomorrow. I got that part number from eBay at the link posted below. If you scroll down to compatibility and click on read more it says that this ring will fit. I guess the proof will be in the pudding...

    Opps wrong pistons

They are NA pistons. They're the old pistons. I'm switching to turbo pistons

    Opps wrong pistons

Upon further investigation, the keystone ring may be the answer. A drill bit inserted into the groove shows a tapered ring grove. So where to find the correct rings? I have found this part number (mhlS42104)

    Opps wrong pistons

I'm using oversize on a standard piston and filling the ring to the proper ring gap.

    Opps wrong pistons

I'll look at this keystone ring thing.

    Opps wrong pistons

I guess this is a Powerstroke piston. I'm not sure what I have going on here. My new rings fit the old pistons, but not the new pistons. I'm not finding a set of rings that spec out to the new pistons ring groves.

    Opps wrong pistons

I have the turbo rods. I have the pistons mounted on the turbo rods. everything was good there. The top ring grove was too narrow on these new pistons, which is why I ran the part numbers. The valve reliefs seem about the same. In fact, the pistons seem very similar. Maybe these are the correct...

    Opps wrong pistons

Well, I messed this one up. I was installing my rings on my pistons and no go. The top ring groove on my new pistons is too narrow for the ring to fit. What's up with that? Cross-referencing numbers say the rings are correct. Cross-reference the pistons says the pistons are for a 94 Powerstroke...

    IDI block = IDIT block

I did it. Drilled and tapped. I let my self get in a position where I need this done yesterday. The beater truck I've been using has developed an ominous tap and I'm afraid it might let loose. Which means I don't want to take the time to fab up new oil feed lines.

    IDI block = IDIT block

The tubes inside the cooler cylinder are different. More cooling tubes in a turbo cooler. Nothing you can see externally.

    IDI block = IDIT block

Maybe a little more oil volume. I haven't decided if I will or not. Honed the block and checked all the ring gaps today. If I'm going to drill, it will be tomorrow before the final cleaning. One advantage is I won't have to find new line fittings for the turbo when I swap the rebuilt engine into...

    IDI block = IDIT block

Older thread I know, but I have a question about the turbo cooler feed at the back of the block. I'm building a NA block to be as close to a TIDI block as possible. Has anyone drilled and tapped the block at the oil feed hole to the larger turbo block size 1/8 NPT TO 1/4?

I Need the fuel pump drive gear

Thanks for all the additional part numbers. I thought about bringing the part to a machine shop or someone who regrinds cams. I actually purchased a new old stock cam and associated eccentric off eBay when I realized other sources were dried up. I really did not want to go electric pump. The...

I Need the fuel pump drive gear

It looks like it should be called a fuel pump lobe. I'm sure it's obsolete, but it would be easier to find with a part number. The one on my cam is toast. It looks like the pump arm was bent causing some abnormal wear. Thanks

I Need the fuel pump drive gear

I haven't posted in quite a while, but I'm back on my engine overhaul this morning. I'm looking for some help. I need the part number or a source of the gear that goes on the camshaft to drive the mechanical fuel pump. Mine is in pretty bad shape I don't know the exact name so I posted a picture...
