Still up for sale if anybody is interested. I'd much rather deal with selling it on here verses all the idiots and tire kickers from Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.
It's time to put Rosie up for sale. I wish I could keep her, but it's time for her to find a new home with a good owner. Asking for $2500 or best reasonable offer. I wanted to list it here first before putting it up on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace since this forum has helped me out a...
Adjusted and tightened up my ignition switch and replaced a seized ignition lock cylinder. It's nice having a truck that reliably starts and doesn't pop when turning the key from off to run. Now to do a 3G alternator swap later this week...
When the tach is dead, is the O/D light flashing or is it off as well? If the tach is dead and the O/D light is off (not flashing) then I'd suspect that the TECA is losing power or ground somewhere.
I know some compressors say they already come with oil and not to add more while others say to add oil. Since the original compressor is showing signs of black death already, I'm not even going to try and flush/re-use old components and just buy everything new and be done with it. I've seen...
Before anybody says it, yes I did search on this before making this topic.
My 89 F250 is still rocking an R12 system, but it is struggling to keep the cab cool and I can see black death buildup on the outside of the compressor. I don't see it surviving another summer so I've decided to get it...
My truck currently has 135K on the odometer. I'm not sure if the IP/Injectors were ever replaced on this engine by the previous owner and best I can tell the IP looks original. The engine is running decent overall. It does have a puff of smoke on cold start and it can get just a little hazy...
Replaced the rear brake shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, axle seals and installed new brake drums. Didn't get to change out the differential oil due to myself running out arm strength. I really hope these SKF seals don't leak...
Also discovered the parking brake cable on one side is...
Time for some closure.
I re-pinned the connector for the MLPS switch using the bottom diagram here: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/e4od-mlps-wiring.42601/#post-479945, but discovered that this did not match what was needed on the new Motorcraft MLPS (SW5978) switch I purchased for my...
The more I drive it, the better the upshifts are getting. They started out harsh but are getting to where they are more where they should be as I'm driving around in it. My guess is the TECA is re-learning its adaptive shifting. I'm still leaning towards the MLPS being bad as the reason it...
From what I can determine, the MLPS sensor was replaced with a newer style sensor and has the matching wiring connector for it. Using the last pinout diagram in the picture referenced here: https://www.oilburners.net/posts/479945/ I re-wired my connector to match. My truck is 2wd so there...
Epic 3 month bump!
I finally have the truck back (don't ask why it took this long) but I have run into a new issue. Whenever I shift the transmission into reverse it will immediately blow fuse #5 (15 amp). If I quickly shift from park to drive it won't blow the fuse, only if I go to reverse...
The rebuilder actually told me to use a specific Tru-Cool cooler for my truck or a cooler from a 6.0L Powerstroke along with upgrading to 3/8" lines at a minimum, so that will be the very next thing I install when I get my truck back. I do think the Sonnax Zip kit was the one he was referring...
I ended up calling around to some of the transmission rebuilders in the area and explained the situation and that we're dealing with a first year E4OD. One shop in particular I had heard mentioned but never have used them before (never had to have a transmission rebuilt until now). The person...
Ford apparently no longer sells remanufactured E4OD transmissions anymore... I've had two dealerships look for them and they can see it in the system but it is now an obsolete part and cannot be gotten anywhere. Therefore, if you have an E4OD you are screwed out on a a factory reman unit. I...
Not that I have anything against a ZF5 unit, I just find that I'm getting lazier with my left foot as I get older. :D
I'd rather not take the gamble of getting a used unit from a salvage yard. The shop my truck is currently at is going to cut me a deal on the labor for installing a reman unit...
I was thinking about a reman from Ford. It should have most of the updates that the later year E4ODs got. I don't do much towing with the truck (at most pulling a streetcar body that is currently on a mobile home trailer) so I don't need something incredibly stout... just something reliable...
Whelp, this is never a good sign.
On my drive today I looked in my rearview mirror and thought I kept seeing a rooster tail of smoke behind me (also that no-one wanted to be immediately behind me traveling on the interstate for that matter). After a few more minutes I start smelling...
Ok...
Got the new relay and socket installed. The wiring going into the old socket and relay was in good shape and the copper was nice and shiny, so that makes me feel better on getting a good connection. After the relay was installed I verified that I had battery voltage with the ignition...
Amazon had a delay in shipping me my relays and sockets, but they should be here tomorrow evening so I can install them.
My current plan (after the relay) will be to check the resistance of the TCC solenoid to make sure it is within spec (20-30 ohms from what I've been reading). I'm planning...
Got home and took a nap. Now I'm wide awake at 12:30am...
I'm getting the impression that my torque converter is not locking up at all. While maintaining a steady speed at 65mph I tap on the brake pedal enough to activate the brake lights but I never do see the tach needle jump up nor do I...
This may be somewhat long but I want to be as thorough as I can be.
I had been dealing with an intermittent issue with the tachometer not working in my truck on cold start up that would normally start to work after the engine had been running for a few minutes. From what I have learned now...
Yeah, I was wondering why it was double-clamped like that on the return line coming from #8 going to the tee fitting. The problem with my area is that IDI trucks are very scare in the salvage yards and are usually picked clean before I can get any parts off of them. I highly doubt I'd be able...
