The joys of ordering a belt tensioner assembly.

Shawn, I figured it was something like that but both styles were listed under the 93 year model. icanfixall, You should see the expressions I get when I rattle off "7.3 turbo diesel VIN number K". Then they look at their screen and realize they had 3 different diesels that year. It's quite...

The joys of ordering a belt tensioner assembly.

Well, last week the belt tensioner exploded on The Beast. The housing broke, the spring shot out, belt came off, all that fun stuff. Military tires + no power steering =. So I order a belt tensioner from Advance Auto. I go to pick it up on Memorial Day and realize that they forgot to tell...

white smoke and knocking on startup

My truck did the same thing until I put some glow plugs in it. I discovered if I squirted ether in it right to start with instead of trying it a couple times, it would grumble to a start instead of going WWAHHHMMM! and blowing a gigantic cloud of smoke. I got glow plugs from amazon, they all...

    Fuel drainback/glowplug confusion

New glow plugs=quick cold starts. I dunno what the dribbling draining sound is.

    Glow plug fun!

What's the difference between the plugs activating while the engine's running and cranking the engine while the lights on?

    Glow plug fun!

I would presume that with a manual glowplug switch that wouldn't happen, most likely extending the life of the glowplugs?

    Glow plug fun!

Cool deal. Is that where the glowplugs will cut on occasionally while it's running? I read somewhere that they do that to make it run better/heat up faster.

    Glow plug fun!

Changed out the glowplugs yesterday. The two broken ones were the ones with the least resistance coming out. The bent one came from the passenger side rear, not exactly sure how that happened. And what the heck is this rubbery, siliconish, varnishey mess? I had to chisel this crap out from...

    Fuel drainback/glowplug confusion

With the stock IP, it would fire up fine when it was cold. Once I put the bull moose on this problem started. But I haven't got the pump dynamically timed and the turbo ain't putting as much air in as I would like. I'm going to get some Motorcraft glow plugs in and see what happens.

    Fuel drainback/glowplug confusion

I suspect I have a fuel drainback issue. After I cut the truck off usually I can hear something running down and dribbling like fuel running into the tank. I currently have the large red wire unhooked from the glow plug relay. The glow plugs tested bad with the multimeter and I got tired of...

Went To Look At A Truck Yesterday

I need a set of injection line clamps. Trucks supposed to have four and it only came with two. One of those got misplaced swapping pumps. I wouldn't mind the injection lines either if they are in good shape.

How does the fuel shut off solenoid work?

I know that when the solenoid loses electrical power, it cuts the fuel off. But does it allow the fuel to bypass the plungers in the IP? Or does shut off the fuel before the plungers? Or what? Basically, I unplugged the solenoid today while bleeding the filter housing. After I filled the...

    Timing problems

Ive been busy the past couple days and haven't been able to do anything with it. However, with the new olives it starts MUCH better. I'm still going to change the rubber lines when I get a chance. I will also look at getting my hands on a Kent Moore or Snap-on setup. Agnem is it normal for...

    Timing problems

With my half ton with a manual I never had a problem pulling people out, but I was always worried about the clutch. I figure I can get the strap tight then just ease onto it and drag them on out without snatching

    Timing problems

By completely mechanical I mean no computers. I was considering a ZF5 swap but it's a whole lot easier to burn up a clutch than it is a torque converter and I have a feeling I'm gonna be getting enough "stuck in the mud" calls that I could open an off-road wrecker service. 18-19 gallons, in...

    Timing problems

They claimed the aftermarket tanks they put in were the wrong size and that's why it runs outta diesel at 1/4 tank. Sounds iffy to me. I can fill it up waayyyyyy past the full mark on the gauge though, it's like the needle is just in the wrong place.

    Timing problems

So I paid 14 bucks for two 1/4 inch long pieces of rubber.. ;Pissed oh well I have some spare parts now. ;Sweet I'm gonna get me some clear fuel line to replace the filter feed line and if it's bubbly I'll replace the rest of the hoses. I'll also do something about that gauge, it could be...

    Timing problems

Here's what I have. The truck had a bunch of fuel related issues, among other things it got new tanks put in before it sat for several years then I got it. When I installed the lift pump, I don't recall seeing any kinked hoses. I want this truck to be completely mechanical, I'm even...

    Timing problems

On my fuel filter supply line, I have a short hard line that comes out of the lift pump. Then there's a piece of rubber hose that runs up and affixes to the filter housing. I know this has been tampered with because there's a broken fuel pressure gauge installed in a tee fitting in between the...

    Timing problems

...huh? The old olives were stuck to the end of the line, I just sliced them off with a utility knife. They didn't stick in the nuts. Of course I say that and now when I go to get the third one out of the lift pump line it'll get stuck in the nut
