    Who Needs a Hotel?!?!

For what it's worth,,... your mileage may vary. Walmart is usually pretty good about letting you park overnight if that's an option. Handy to bathrooms anyhow. Lot easier than dealing with a porta pottie imo I don't recommend staying parked in the same place two nights in a row...

    C.A.V. Injectors?

Down to small projects at the moment, Urishiol dermatitis sucks. Anyhow, pop tested some old injectors I had kicking around and found they were all over the board. Everywhere from 1950 down to 1600. purchased an ultrasonic cleaner, and started pulling some apart. Some interesting...

    new or used flywheel bolts?

Although in this case, 47 ft lbs is the standard torque for a 3/8-16 grade 8 DRY. http://www.intermotive.net/Tech%20Tip/Tech%20Tip%20-%20Jan%2008.pdf

    new or used flywheel bolts?

Valid point. I haven't come across anything yet in automotive manuals specifying wet or dry torque. in the case of new oem bolts, the goop is semi dry and I expect the torque yield is different than liquid threadlocker. One might be inclined to add 5% but that's out in the wag land.

    new or used flywheel bolts?

finally got my new bolts in, ground them down just a bit to get the right length. Now for locktight. According to the manual,.. Lock'n seal 577 588 c1. two places I found reference are http://www.motofab.com/data/pdf/loctite_oem_product_guide.pdf This chart cross references 577588c1...

    new or used flywheel bolts?

Yeah, you might get lucky, but if you flip the bolts and the threads don't lay in nice and pretty over the entire length I wouldn't trust them any more. Took me a while to figure that out, but that's my go-nogo gauge. and incidentally, the luk single mass bolts were just a hair over 2" and...

    new or used flywheel bolts?

Third flywheel pulled, and all three had stretched bolts. Seems weird that all three would be stretched, but I suspect an impact gun was the install method. I ordered arp bolts, and some grade 9's from mcmastercarr.

Anyone try sourcing a quality copper radiator core?

That's at least a starting point, thanks.

    6.9 idi in a 1972 Maverick

I stripped the entire engine compartment of a maverick to paint it, and removed the interior. After that I could pick up the front of the car and trundle it around on the rear tires like an oversized wheelbarrow. Just an indication of how light they are. Fun little car! but I would...

Anyone try sourcing a quality copper radiator core?

That's pretty much what I'm looking for. even if it's a core designed for something industrial that will fit in the standard radiator housing, I'd consider that a win. I expect to pay decent money, but I'd rather have that money go in to quality tubes and fins rather than recreating the...

Anyone try sourcing a quality copper radiator core?

That's what I'm looking for, just a quality core. I'm hoping there's a better chance at getting something more industrial that way.

Was the ready-rad a core? or complete aftermarket radiator?

Anyone try sourcing a quality copper radiator core?

I recently bought another project truck and ended up robbing the radiator out of it as mine started leaking on the drive home with the new acquisition. Someone had re-cored this beast in recent history, the PO claimed it cost him 600 bucks. It looks nice! tubes are probably an...

    new or used flywheel bolts?

Sec 6 pg 31 step 6 of engine service manual states to put lock'n seal on bolts if reusing. Implying acceptable procedure to reuse. Last time I had one of these off, it was a cracked flex plate on a c6 mated 6.9 New bolts came with the plate, and I compared them with the old...

    Turbo v non-turbo mileage?

Most driving I get around 12-14. truck weighs 8500 empty. I just put on 19.5's a bit ago, don't think I could have gotten away with that without the 4:11's mileage seems about the same, will take a while to draw a conclusion though. The econoline I was driving for a while with the...

    C.A.V. Injectors?

Robbed an injector off what I believe to be a 92 7.3 to put on an 89 7.3 spare that I want to keep running just in case I need it. Noticed that the 92 was stamped C.A.V. England "E" which I understand to be one of the less desirable types. First time I've seen anything English on...

    different types of Anti-seize?

I like loctite c-200. It's got that really slippery slimy goodness. They push the graphite based products on us at work now. Probably cheaper.

Question for old timers? Maybe youngins who know trailers

That's a clever way to do it. I'm leaning toward an air bag suspension, but the spring packs would certainly be easier.

Question for old timers? Maybe youngins who know trailers

My gooseneck is a 74 I believe. only thing readable on the data plate is 74 and 20,000. Axle design is different than what I see on newer trailers. The axle does not cross the center. there's a tire, then a spring assembly, then another tire. You might call them trucks I suppose. But there are...

    Topside oil change?

I put the key and the drain plug in the same spot. usually my pocket. Purchased the vacuum system from harbor freight to change the oil on my tdi (aluminum pan strips out easily. Mine really needs to be changed next time I pull the plug. I have new pan, just didn't want to disturb a good...

    eBay pop testers

This one looked suspiciously like the base of a high quality bottle jack to me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Injector-Nozzle-Tester-Diesel-Pop-Tester-/231664039735?hash=item35f040b737:g:SP8AAOSwjVVV2pVZ&item=231664039735&vxp=mtr and after looking at some of the setups people have built, I think...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Ordered a racor water separator with alarm off ebay. I'm reinventing the water separator system the truck had on it years ago. cookoo Though looking back, I think my mistake was failing to note the significance of the fuel truck parked at the service station when I topped off on friday. :frustrate

So what did you do with your truck today?

Finally got the truck inspected yesterday morning, drove a couple hours down state to pick up a spare 7.3 engine and tranny. On the drive down I ended up behind some woman totally engrossed in her cell-phone, doing the speed up, slow down, let me check my texts, then speed up routine. I...

Who here runs a fuel additive?

I've been running a cetane booster / lubricant from a company called cen-pe-co. The local diesel fuel systems shop swears by it. But I have no way to see if there is much of a difference in lubricity in the short term. I'm probably going back to 2 cycle oil when I run out of this. At least with...
