Installed electric pump, now no start

Hey guys. I spent 4 hours getting my electric pump installed. Wire to pump to switch to fuse to battery. Problem is, it didn't prime up at first and like an idiot I started the truck, cause I wasn't sure if it was running or not. The truck drained the fuel filter and then quit running. Worked...

Ranger 2.3L cranks normally but no start

Hey, I finally got my ranger engine to turn over. As 95_Stroker and others suggested it was corroded connections causing the trouble. Now it won't fire! This truck ran great, it was my first vehicle and it was only parked because I enjoy driving my IDI more. It started immediately even...

Hey, need help finding new IP return line elbow

Well you guys were right on. My hard start is coming from air leaks into the injector pump at the return line. I am using a rednecked elbow at this time and this is probably the cause of the leak. Is there anywhere iI can get a new elbow? IH was no help, the just gave me a bunch of crap that...

    Hard Start Cold

Well, I'm pretty sure it isn't the glow plugs...they stay on as usual. 10 seconds, remember I have a solid state system..... The truck runs great otherwise, and it isn't that bad to start it cold, just not quick like it should be. Will usually start within 10 seconds of cranking. It starts on...

Lower oil pressure with SAE 30?

Yeah....I wonder if this would be expected. With the 15-40, it was 15-20 at hot idle, with the straight 30 it is 11-15 at a hot idle. In both cases, the oil pressure is well over 40 on a cold startup or moving down the road at 2000+ rpm, within specs.... what are you guys with real oil...

Decided to experiment with straight weight oil SAE 30 or SAE 40?

Ok, I have made the decision to try this and see what the oil sample tells. I'm hoping for better engine protection. Extreme cold is not something I deal with especially from now through Dec 1st. The guy from blckstone said that the SAE40 would protect teh bearings better, but I notice it...

    Changing Differential Oil

Yeah just wondering if I should do this PM item. It has not been done since I have owned Old Smokey, about 19,000 miles ago,a nd don't know when the last time it was done before I bought her. I know it needs to be refilled with fresh 80W-90 gear oil, but what else might I need to do to make...

Biggest Tires I can run on unmodified 16" wheels

Well it's time for old smokey to get new shoes and I finally have the money for them. I was considering bigger tires to help get my RPMs down a bit, and i was wondering how big I can go without needing bigger rims or a lift kit or some other stuff like that. What do y'all think, J.D.

Rotella SAE 30 or 15W40 better

Hey all, I have heard some places that SAE 30 is the preferred oil for an IDI. I have been running 15W 40, but with summer coming up I could run the 30 if I wanted to. Any opinions on which protects the engien better? Thanks, J.D.

    Ranger won't turn over...ignition switch?

I know this may not get a lot of hits but I am trying to fix an old Ford Ranger with teh 2.3L Mistu gas engine. Started and ran great but then was just DEAD. I tried chargiing the batt, even tried another batt. Still nothing! Tried jumping the starter solenoid manually, key on....nothing...

    Bearing R&R

I hope this doesn't become neccessary, but if I keep seeinghigh lead in myoil it might. I would pull the engine and have it on a stand for this job. Assuming that, what is the difficulty level? What do I need to keep in mind to avoid screwing up real bad? I posted this over on TDS also but...

103ppm Lead-Blackstone Stumped Are my bearings shot?

Well I got an oil repiort from Blackstone that about made me lose it. It showed 103ppm for lead, universal avg. is 9ppm. That was up from 6--m in Aug. and 11 in Oct. There is no difference in sound or oil pressure though. Other wear metals are OK, what gives? Thanks
