    Post your rides..

Good! I sold my dmax, bought a 4-letter F word half ton runaround job, and have been truckin my life away. How bout yourself? I remember you had plans to do your Cummins conversion, that's awesome that you followed through with it!

    Best engine for Class 8

From my limited experience, I'm happiest driving a truck with a yellow block under the hood. To be fair I haven't driven an ISX, but the N14's I drove pulled hard when you drove them like you stole them, but didn't have the nice torque curve of the Cats.. Plus they were noisy as hell and always...

    Post your rides..

Here's my new ride, bought it and the trailers new in October 2006. It's an 07 Pete, long nose 63" shack 379 with the 625hp C15, 18spd, 3.55 rear end super 40's and all the bells and whistles. I took it and put it to work box stock off the lot and have been adding chrome as I go, but it's been...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

I spoke with a fellow yesterday who has a 450horse MBE4000 in his Freightshaker Columbia, he's had it for two years now and is almost at 250k miles, never been on a hook. Excellent fuel mileage too.. I think I would have to hear some real first-hand horror stories to sway me away from that...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Yeah I think you're right about the lowmax, there is a lot of wildlife on that road and I wouldn't want something so low that roadkill will hang up on it.. I would definitely go with the 18spd, I think on that road you can't have too many gears.

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Thanks for all of the info guys, it is very much appreciated. After a lot of reasoning I have pretty much decided on a pair of Western Stars (4900EX or lowmax) with the Mercedes 450's. I think it is the smartest choice. While it would be great to drive a 379X or a W900 this is the best...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

There are so many variables it makes my head spin, I wish there were an obvious choice.. I'm not going to sweat it too much until I find out for sure if I've got the job. You hear so many conflicting reports, like Detroits getting 8mpg, guys with 550 cats pushing 7mpg, and mercedes supposedly...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

You know, the C12 is an interesting point though. I'm not concerned at all about performance, just fuel mileage. What would I expect out of a C12 pulling light 53 footers, compared to a C15? Hell, I'll even go with a 335horse C10 if it will save me on fuel, but I don't know if it will since it...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

BTW the main reason I want the big shack is because I won't have time to sleep at home, I'll be living in the truck for 4 days at a time while my hired driver will be doing likewise for 6 days at a time. I know we could manage with 48" flat tops if need be but I'd rather go with something that...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Yeah Mack makes a very nice truck, I'm just not sold on their engines. I drove a 2000 E7-460 with the 18spd, loaded with the big standup sleeper, and while the truck probably was the nicest I've ever driven, the engine really didn't do anything for me. I'm not too concerned about the...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

I want to go with the 70" to keep the drivers happy more than anything, one of them being me. It actually seems kinda small compared to Western Star's 82" stratosphere, or Kenworth's 86" studio :D

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Yes apparently they've already started charging for for the skyrocketing steel prices. I wouldn't even be considering this whole thing but if things go according to plan, which they never do, my light at the end of the tunnel is having two trucks and trailers paid for in 5 years.. Then I'll...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Are you sure you can get a Detroit in a Pete? I was under the impression that they are only available in Daimler trucks. I hate the idea of a Paccar truck with anything but a Cat or Cummins in it, but if it saves fuel I think I could stomach it, as long as the fuel savings work out to be more...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Pacific, my point to point is W. Georgia St. to Cranbrook hauling for Canada Post. Do you think I'll have trouble getting in/out of the city with this wheelbase? I was planning on ordering the trailers with the axles all the way back too for better weight placement. My arrival/departure times in...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

Thanks for the advice. I hate the idea of owning one of these new emissions engines but the contract specifies for two brand new trucks and trailers. I looked at a Volvo VN780 and they only offer the ISX or Volvo engines, the only way to get a detroit now is in a western star or freightliner.

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

I just bid on a contract that needs two tractors/trailers, 5000 miles per week combined. I played it safe and figured on getting 4.6mpg, but I think 5.5+ is easily achievable. Fuel economy is going to make me or break me on this one, so engine choice is my biggest dilemna. I don't really have a...

    Oil Pressure Sender Port

It's on the drivers side of the engine near the middle of the block, about half way between the exhaust manifold and oil pan.

How often do you change your oil?

When stock I ran it to 10k miles. The manual says that's fine, oil life monitor agreed and it came out looking like new still. After adding the Juice/Attitude I changed it at 3k miles and it came out black as coal. Too much playing on 5/5.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to catch them before you can run them over?:D

    How many of you guys

Backing up is one thing, backing up a tow truck with a tractor and trailer attached through a toll booth that is 12" wider than the whole assembly is another. Of course it can be done but who the hell wants to when you dont have to!

Here's my first truck, a '69 Chevy C20, 2wd, 350 with a TH400 and 4.10 rears. Aurora ignition, Weiland high-rise intake, cam, etc. etc. I bought it from an old fellow who owned it since new, it was in absolutely showroom condition inside and out. Wish I'd gotten more/better pics of it now...

I won't be going to the Calgary one but will definitely be at the Abbotsford one.. You got it Jonathan, we can hook it up to yours and see what it'll turn on the rollers. Should be interesting!
