Looking to sell van. 92 Ambulance, 7.3 IDI NA I put the mileage at 150,000+. $4000

I have used this for a couple of years now as a work vehicle. I bought it with 26,000 miles but I do believe it was 126,000. I have put on just over 25,000. Since getting the return lines straightened out and going to an electric fuel pump, I have just changed the oil and drive it. Put a new...

So what did you do with your truck today?

so I guess my actual query was is it indicative of another problem? Is it blown? Is it something else?

So what did you do with your truck today?

After driving around for a couple hundred miles I can report that the new tach sensor and pinching off the return line on the filter head have made dramatic differences. Hopefully I can move on to other issues I want to address. Still going to pull the sending unit/pickup as I only have one tank...

Electric fuel pump really needed 7.3 idi

I might be lazy, most that know me say not....But take a look at the location of the pump on a van sometime....Then lay on your back in the dirt and take a face full of dirt and crap and probably diesel fuel to swap it out. For the price, I can buy a second e pump(and I will if I travel), and...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Replaced the tach sensor, the old one was reading in the millions of ohms. It is shifting better and different? Will have to drive it more to figure it out. Pinching off the return line to the filter head made a big difference. Never see negative pressures now. Cooked the small battery on the...

    Facet 40290 pressure issues

Drove it for a couple of days and it is improved. Much higher pressure when cold. Still drops in the afternoon but not to zero. Still thinking it might be picking debris as the day goes on and reduces the flow. Pulling the pick up next.

    1993 7.3 IDI Belt Tensioner F4TZ6B209C

It was from a 93 parts list but I will have to search for the number. It looked the same except for the shock. The modifications was the bolt that goes thru it was different. I used the original shoulder bolt even though it no longer worked like a shoulder bolt. If I had time I might have come...

    1993 7.3 IDI Belt Tensioner F4TZ6B209C

I had to modify a non shock tensioner for my 92 IDI. Its been going almost a year. I still have the old shock and mount but could not find a way to get one or fix that one. It sheared of a little nub of cast pot metal that held it. Super strong spring so I didnt try to rig something up. I would...

    Facet 40290 pressure issues

I also thought it might be pieces of the pickup plugging the fuel line. I cut a hole in the floor and accessed the fuel pickup and sending unit but have not pulled it out. I am sure it is original, 33 years old. I had decided that you cant push pressure if you cant pick it up. Pressure will...

    Facet 40290 pressure issues

I just made the pinch off change to mine this morning. I saw 8+ at idle and 5 under a heavy load. Have not run it thru a day yet to see if it tails off. Will report back when I do.

    Facet 40290 pressure issues

Engine running at idle in the morning I see about 5. Holds up well early in the day and runs about 3 under acceleration or loaded up a hill. Later in the day it looses pressure, I have not figured out why yet. Screen on pump shows no dirt, new filter just after the pump, and the original filter...

    Facet 40290 pressure issues

It might lift 10 ft but maintain what pressure? Mine is unregulated and the maximum I see is 7 psi with negative lift.

    Facet 40290 pressure issues

I thought I read somewhere that these pumps dont like to lift or suck, they push. I mounted mine down on the frame rail where the tank easily feeds it. I have struggled with consistency with pressures also. I measure mine where the schrader valve used to be. In the morning I have good pressure...

    Tachometer

Found the rpm signal wire in the compartment behind the driver and tried to use my sounding unit to trace the wire into the cab and dash. Got it traced to behind the drivers seat in a monster loom and lost the signal from there. Does anyone know what wire from the trans control is tach and how...

    Tachometer

To further explain, I have rewired the high beams because they went thru the "wig wag" system. I have rewired the marker lights, the compartment lights, and wired up some of the large red rear and side facing lights to come on with the brakes. I am working on recovering the AC and Heat in the...

    Tachometer

So I need to buy a tach and then find the wire from the trans controller. I dont have a stock in dash tach. This was a display in the ambulance control board mounted on a custom aluminum extension on the dog house. This was the first year for the Horton system 2000 controller for the...

    Tachometer

I have ripped all the ambulance wiring out of my.....ambulance...lol. It provided the tachometer which has started to stop working when I dropped back to an idle. So I want to get another and am wondering about wiring it up. Where to I pick up the signal wire. The original one is still in place...

Trailered home a 1989 F350 dump truck that looks great on the outside, but the 7.3 IDI is something else

You have time and money. This is going to be a epic finished product. Watching with delight.

Thinking of making a reusable oil filter from stainless steel sanitary pipe, fishing for your thoughts.

I think you have to look at the amount of energy in a given amount of fuel and then look at the losses in the drive train and wind resistance. There is no free lunch. Alternators, power steering pumps, air conditioning, all take their toll on fuel used. There is no carburetor that will magically...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Its all original. I intend to bypass the mechanical lift pump and at some point remove the OE filter and bracket. Free up some room up there and not have to tear half the van apart to change the filter.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Funny you mention fuel pressure. I put the Facet in and although I haven't driven it yet, it still is under 5 psi at idle. I have not removed the old lift pump yet so maybe that is holding it back. But I noted that the electric pump does not pump up to pressure and shut off. When I shut the...

Thinking of making a reusable oil filter from stainless steel sanitary pipe, fishing for your thoughts.

I love the idea, but I think most will defer to the convenience of spinning the old one off and spinning a new one on. Many superior products stopped being made/used because of convenience. I am not sure how I would choose......

So what did you do with your truck today?

LOL! Love me some Far Side. On the brake theme, I changed out all the springs and pads and cylinder on the back drivers side and everything went smooth. Then I tried to do the passenger side and no way was the brake line going to come out of the cylinder. So I bought a piece of line and a...
