85 6.9 IDI Will not run

Maybe dumb question, but what's the correct flow volume for our trucks @ the 5-12psi? What's the flow rate of the pump you have at 60psi? I'm assuming the regulator bleeds off pressure by sending the flow fuel back to the tank (reducing volume), correct? I'm not an expert, but if Justin said...

    Source for quality rotors?

I couldn't find power stop for 86. I think it's 99 and up. Best I can find is Raybestos 6978R which at least are name brand, but not sure on quality. Funny that part number isn't listed for my truck at rock auto, but when I squeeze AI not to make mistakes with gaurdrail prompt, that's what it...

    Source for quality rotors?

Figured I'd replace the rotors while doing wheel bearings. Trouble is, I don't know where to buy quality ones. Torque King has once that are 5x what rock auto raybestos R-line's are, but they don't provide any details. When I bought Raybestros brake lines from Bronco graveyard, they turned...

    Should I buy this truck?

The price seems reasonable if not a good deal to me, but I'm in expensive California. I'd second what Jesus Freak and DirtyWood say. Is that the truck you want (body style wise), and that it could turn out to be a lot of work (thus - is that what you really want). I love the 86, 4WD. They...

    South Bend clutch chatter

I had this thought after writing below. I would call south bend and see what they say could cause and best course of action. Compare that to what you see here. If the chatter is bad and you can't live with it - I don't know of anything you can do to fix it, it's gotta come back apart. As I...

    South Bend clutch chatter

Is it one of the disks that have metalic buttons on one side or both sides, or regular clutch friction material on both sides. The button clutches tend to chatter more than the softer material. Did you turn the new flywheel? Even if it's new it's a good idea, and good insurance against...

    Exhaust Manifold Removal

I use 1/4" drive flex head long handle with deep 6pt socket recently to pull the manifold to get the oil cooler out easily. Didn't seem that bad. Without a flex head, maybe it would have been PITA (not sure).

    Which replacement injection pump?

Looks like you're in nor-cal. I've used Diamond Diesel in west sac. I think they are in Oakland as well. They are authorized Stanadyne rebuilder and I've been really happy with parts/service I've got from them. I've been there for several things and I've noticed most of the customers were...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Took the day off work and drove the truck down to south sac to pick up a truck toolbox at the terminal. Noticed the front head gasket leaking when I was doing the oil cooler, so was a little worried I wouldn't make it (had the heater on full blast the whole way). Truck made it, only lost a...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Test drive to check the oil cooler job and valve cover. No leaky... So far. The thermostat seemed to stick and temp went up to 230/240 (for maybe 1-2 minutes tops) before coming down to 200 after turning on the heater. Took a gallon and a half in the radiator after letting it cool down. I...

    Coolant filter kit

Thanks for the heads up. I'll do one no charge filter, and change after 1K miles or so. Then do another no charge and change after 5K or so. Then after that a third no charge for like 15K miles, then every other one? The test strips I used in the past were crap and it was hard to tell where...

    Coolant filter kit

I am planning to use the fleet charge. Sounds like I should use no SCA filter for 2 or 3 times before doing the every other filter assuming I change the filter ever 10K miles which is about 2 years for me.

    Coolant filter kit

I just got this: Baldwin Filter Base Part #: CFB5000|Brand: BALDWIN|MPN #: CFB Need to sort out how / were the best mount location is on the 86 F350, get some tees, ball valves, and a filter. But parts are stacking up. Thanks for the write up and the pictures. I'm in the middle of distilled...

    Battery jumper packs?

I use the JNC 990 or something like that. Starts trucks, only downside is it's heavy, and the cables dont' reach from the ground. Works as advertised, and I never notice the wires being hot when I wrap them up.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I think it's front bearing. In neutral - quiet with foot on the clutch, hear the gear noise when you let the clutch out. I'm expecting to hear it when driving in 1,2,3 and have it go away in 4th and 5th, but didn't really get a chance to hear it while driving. Not familiar with rollover...

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

I used similar clamps. Hope I didn't cut it, but it didn't take a ton of force to assemble. Enough that I couldn't do it with body weight pushing down on it though. Nice thread. Lots of good into. I really like the test jig.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I drove the white truck on it's maiden voyage that was supposed to be down to the mailboxes (baby steps). Blew a fuse about 2 doors down, So I made it up the hill, turns stops, goes, but only for a couple hundred yards. I had 30 amp from alt to battery (too small). I had blow it before, so I...

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

I"m mostly curious about the retorque, and how hard it is, and if there is any (real) benifit. If I end up needing to pull the head, I'll probably pull the engine, do both, add studs, and do front and rear main and probably pan too. I'm just hoping I don't need to go though all that (at least...

The 89 lipstick on a Pig

Nice. Sound like you're making progress. This is the 2005+ superduty dana 60? Send updates on the install. It's on my wish list. You'll have to let us know how much better the turning radius is.

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

Do they actually get lose so that the lose bolt is the problem and tightening will fix it. Or is it just trying to squeeze it a little tighter so it stops leaking, but it's temporary, if it works at all? I probably drive it once a month, unless we get snow then it's daily for a week. If I can...

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

Noticed the head gasket is seeping in the front drivers side. I really don't want to pull the head off right now. Can it run like that for some time, so long as I don't get it too hot? I suppose I have oil and coolant out of the engine, and the exhaust manifold off. Can I run it, or should I...

Clinking( metal clicking) noise when rolling

If you add your truck details in your signature, it will help us figure out what you've got. If you have extended cab truck, your rear driveline likely has a center carrier (two section rear drive line). The center support rubber goes bad and that thing can clunk around. Just grab hold of the...

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

Exhaust bolts came right out. Way easier with manifold gone. Thanks for the tip. Need to go get exhaust gasket and radiator hose. Coolant and oil.

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

I'm afraid to touch the exaust manifold bolts (probably rusted together over 40 years). I suppose I could try to crack them loose, and if they don't budge, go with plan B. One thing I noticed is lower radiator hose seems bad, but I have the big all AC radiator which I heard is impossible to...

Doing oil cooler. Is this trick legit?

Hadn't fully considered what that meant going in. I was thinking I would get it out, then pull the front off and clean and assemble in the shop. But then what? I have the problem going in - so maybe it's not a clear win unless you can assemble on the truck, but I don't think I'm gonna do it...
