Well BIG NEWS, Thanks to all those who commented and helped
Its back on the road. A simple brake job turned into a front end overhaul!!!
I ended up replacing all brake parts front and rear, new hoses, flushed the brake fluid, axle pivot bushings, Ball joints, wheel bearings and seals, new gear...
Ya, crazy how easy it is. I was looking at it, and it appears to just be pressed in pin, in a pinch could have pressed in a small nail or something and cut to size, but im not living on a remote island lol I just got amazon to deliver a new one.
I wouldn't not buy from a company because of the name, in this day and age marketing is everything, so if its a catchy name maybe it grabs people in.
Honestly, only reason I clicked on this post was because I said Oh man I havent heard anyone talk about Punisher valve bodies in awhile. I...
Well good news!!!!
Front brakes are done! All new bearings and seals, Ball joints, axle pivot bushings, fresh gear oil and RTV, front hubs have been rebuilt, brakes rotors and pads, new used wheels and tires too! I flushed of fluid through... it looks black in the bottle almost, kinda wish I...
They sometimes can ship USPS but its not always an option.
But yes, my fedex has all the packages on the floor in the van and he just steps over and on them looking for the right one.. Ive been outside and helped him take boxes off, nice guy but I think its just the way they are trained and...
Good news, one side is done!!!
Bad news, I broke the nipple off the lock ring somehow….
Waiting on a new one to arrive so I can finish it up, along with a service kit for the manual hubs, the O rings are toast on them… then bleed the brakes, get a new vent tube back on the carrier and bleed...
Progress was made today, getting close darn kids and early sunsets killed getting the hubs on…
Does this seal look seated enough to ya?? I should have put it on the shaft before I installed it, but in the video I watched it got pressed on with the spindle, but that wasn’t the case for me...
Thought about it, but honestly I don’t use 4wd that much, and the oil that came out was surprisingly clean and still amber, and I haven’t touched the diff in the 11 years I’ve owned it, so I’m not too worried about it.
Maybe if I did more off road, or used 4x4 I would do it, and honestly you...
Someone was nice enough to post the manual for the dana 50 in another thread of mine, If copied a link to the post here
https://www.oilburners.net/threads/dana-50-wheel-bearing-replacement-how-in-depth-should-i-get.93731/post-1147988
step 1 Tighten bottom nut to 20-30lbs
Step 2 Tighten Top...
It sucked, especially when you’re laying on your driveway and just have a floor jack in a piece of wood to balance the carrier on.
Even just moving the carrier around to clean it and do the seals. It was heavy!!
All in all, I’m glad I did it. I hope the RTV job holds up. Got kinda buggered...
Major progress today
Rotors are mounted on hubs, just need to pack the bearings and install the seals.
The carrier was removed, new seals on both sides, and reinstalled… what a pain!!! I didn’t replace the u joint because it was solid, and honestly I’m over it lol
Right its the only saving grace actually, Gonna do both seals while its out as well, shouldnt be a horrible job... I hope
Still struggling to find the torque specs on the dana 50 ball joints. I see the f350 dana 60 ones everywhere, but conflicting info on d50
Little set back lol … Drivers side axle seal broke
I also think I need to pull the front diff, I’m pretty sure it’s leaking, got a pile of gunk all caked on the rock guard, and I’ve seen drips that smell like gear oil.
I can put my pinky in the fill hole and not feel oil, so it had to go...
What is the torque spec and sequence for my ball joints, I have the Dana 50 Twin I beam axle, and once they are tighten to spec, I flush out the factory grease correct??
I know it seems dumb, but reading conflicting info
Thanks
I HATE YOU!!!
I just ordered a 3pk on Amazon, it will be here tomorrow lol
I’m hoping it looks like this?? I want that gold flake look lol nothing but the best for my truck!!
Oh man, now I’m interested, I’m from Texas myself
EDIT: Good lawrd, good thing it’s got gold flakes in it because they charge $$ like it is!!! I’ll stick to 9 bucks a tube vs 25 lol
I went down the wormhole of trying to find the best grease actually, and lost a few days time trying to decide actually.
I made the mistake of searching best wheel bearing grease, and i quickly discovered there are Many options and opinions, before that search I just thought grease was grease...
Thanks,
My next project tomorrow besides the rear pivot bushing, is installing the race and bearings, my question is, how full do I fill this area with grease in the hub, a lot of the videos skip over this part
I went from being a Hack, to spray painting parts black lol
Made a lot of progress, new Ball joints are in, 1 of 2 pivot bushings are in, hopefully get some more wrapped up tomorrow.
Made some progress today, got the knuckles and spindles loose. U joints look solid, nice USA made non greaseables, so gonna leave em in.
Watched a video in Dana 50 rebuilds and they just gave the knuckles a few whacks and it dropped out, beat mine for idk 30 mins and didn’t budge, pulled out...
Ya I agree, but how far down the worm hole do you go? Do I D60 swap, should I then get the RSK for the D60, well now I can run bigger tires, do I? you see how my brain works lol
Ive read your how to many of times lol
