I've been running mine for quite a few years now. Works awesome. It also has an internal relay that is tripped along with the alarm set point. I don't use it for anything, but it has a nice click to it that reminds me to check the gauge out.
Ok now for some actual progress.
Nerf bars went away when the TTB went away, so I was looking for a new option.
Hauled home a pile of old pallet rack beams and 1/8" plate from the scrap yard:
And turned it into some new steps:
Bolted to the frame, plenty of beef.
Then I found...
So it's been a while......figured I would add a couple words about how the old girl has been doing.
I have now had a chance to use the truck in all of the various ways / conditions Ive set it up for.
The truck's main job; haul the family over to the dunes in the summer, and head up to the...
I've heard of those 4way valves having issues with getting stoved up and breaking. I ran two of the 3 way valves for that reason, and because the 3way valves are cheaper/much more common. Also allows you to transfer fuel between the two tanks, which has come in really handy a few times. No...
The problem with attaching a handle to the pillar is that the pillar is a totally different angle than the plastic trim that covers it. Here's how I did it...
Bent some 1/8" plate up, used riv-nuts to attach it to the pillar, then cut the plastic around it. Not necessarily simple, but turned...
You only have to get about 3/4 of the way through the bearing race with the cutoff wheel, then smack it with a good cold chisel and bfh. It'll crack the rest of the race and will then come right off.

Here's how I did it: not the easiest way, but I already had the parts.
The sterling 10.5 axles are an upgrade over the older 10.25. Brakes work better, parking brake works just as well, and the best part to me is not having to jack the rear end up and adjust the brakes multiple times a year.
Front end, depends on who you talk to. King pin axles will break...
Awesome idea...I researched this very thing quite a bit when building my Intercooler charge pipes. I too was unwilling to shell out the $$$ for a tool I would probably only use once. This is the first option I've seen for those without welding capabilities.
Here's my version:
Old pair of...
Yep, they've usually been neglected for years, if not decades. Because the dang things just keep running. If simple and reliable are what you want, an IDI is hard to beat. They don't have the raw horsepower of the newer diesels, but that only prolongs the life of an already stout drivetrain...
Only one short test drive so far, but can definitely tell the difference. At the same time, my original bushings were probably pretty mushy compared to what they were from the factory
FWIW, before I made up the proper battery cables, I had the stud type group 31's with the big screw on adapters to the standard automotive tapered setup (they added about an inch in height), and it still cleared my slant nose hood.
On to what I was up to today...
Had a popping noise start...
Using the 08 axles is probably the same amount of work, but with a better (and way cooler) end result.
FWIW I did see one guy with a Bronco that did this swap and kept the stock coil buckets. They didn't line up perfectly, but the coil springs aren't very picky...
Had manual and electric setups when I put my truck together; chose manual for reliability reasons, then had 2 of them strip all the teeth off of the gears. Previous 2 trucks with electric never gave me any trouble....
Yes, the hole in the back of the intake and the hole in the valley pan were both blocked off, and I ran a banks style vent - basically made a fitting that bolts on to the front of the timing cover with a 1" hose barb for the road draft tube.
When I was digging around for driveshaft parts, I do remember scoping out a dually with a Dana rear end. From what I remember, the whole driveshaft was different, so I wouldn't be ordering that yoke yet.
The front axles are the same - duallies just use different unit bearings. Unless you scored...
1. I've been researching a newer (SuperDuty) master cylinder can be retrofitted. 1-5/16" is good, but I'm going for bigger...
2. Re-flaring the stock line was my original plan, both the 2 lines I had weren't long enough to flare. I was left with less than an inch of tube after the fitting...
And for the one thing I did get done: swapped the power steering pump to a Saginaw pump. There's lots of info out there on this one, so I'll just hit on a few key points.
I sourced the pump from a 96 Chevy Astro Van. That's right, mini van parts are an upgrade for our trucks.....Some of the...
