How soon do I need a new IP?

We are on the road and don't have the time or the money to wait for a IP from the good guys. I just need something to get us back on the road and will get a good IP once we are somewhere we can stay while waiting for the better IP. James

How soon do I need a new IP?

After looking online for a replacement IP it looks like I will have to order one from Autozone or Orielly's in Rapid City which is another 165 miles or from Orielly's in Pierre which is 50 miles away. Do you think I could make to either place before the IP quits completely? Or should I try to...

How soon do I need a new IP?

I am on my way to Rapid City South Dakota towing a 36ft 8000lb travel trailer. I pulled into the New Frontier campground in Presho, South Dakota to spend a couple of days here. I pulled into our spot and shut the truck off while I looked over what needed to be done to set up the trailer, and...

Starting issues after solenoid relay replaced

You have to drop the dash panel under the steering column, then remove the two bolts that hold the column up to the dash frame to allow the column to fall down a few inches. Then you will be able to see the ignition switch mounted to the upper left side of the column. The switch is held on by...

Starting issues after solenoid relay replaced

I had similar starting problems with my truck a couple of years ago and it turned out to be the ignition switch that is located down on the steering column was starting to separate into two pieces. After I replaced it the truck started fine.

Quigley E350 Van: No brake booster! What is wrong?

What is the possibility of installing a hydroboost system to replace the vacuum booster?

    Vacuum pump pully failure?

The pulley can be bent by someone if they use a outside jaw type puller on it. When I last replaced my vacuum pump I rented a pulley puller that pulled on the center hub of the pulley to prevent bending it.

    Weird steering

Glad you found your problem. And by all means follow Black dawg's advice and replace both axle u-joints at the same time.

Where to measure to make sure voltage regulator isn’t killing batteries?

I found the replacement relay at advanced auto parts. I think it is standard motor part # RY-71. Parts Geek and Rockauto list them. The relay provides power to the TECA that controls the transmission.

Where to measure to make sure voltage regulator isn’t killing batteries?

Your truck info doesn't say if it has a auto trans or not, however if it is a E40D check the transmission power relay which is located on my truck near the cruse control on the driver side. On my 90 the relay is directly wired to the constant hot side of the passenger side fender relay. They...

    Weird steering

If it is a sudden change in steering direction, I would suspect that your front drive axle shaft u-joints are trying to seize up. Mine did this last winter and I was barely able to drive the truck back to the house. I would be driving straight and when one of the u-joints tried to seize up the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

It's possible I guess. All I know is it's making a heck of a lot more engine noise with the top not sealing to the bottom of the air cleaner like it's supposed to. Jim

    Much difference with steering stabilizer?

You might try shimming the play out of the slip joint of your steering shaft first until you can afford a Borgeson. There is a YouTube that shows how to do it.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I installed a new Fram CA3501 air filter today and now the top of the air cleaner will not seal up like it should. It seems the Fram is 1/4 inch taller than the old STP 3501 filter. What gives?

    Ground Cable - Block connection

Since you already have it loose you might as well clean it as best you can before retightening it in order to maintain a good ground for the starting and charging system.

    F- 150/250/350 80 - 86 Hood release Handle

I recently replaced the hood release on my 1990 f250, and the hardest thing was getting the new firewall grommet seated all the way in the firewall. I also had to use zip-ties to secure the new cable in the engine bay because I didn't think to order new clips to replace the old brittle clips...

    Power window stuck down

Unless someone has replaced the window motors, the brushes in the motors are probably worn out. I had to replace my passenger side window motor because the brushes were worn out.

    Steering went crazy!

Went and checked on my truck's progress today and the verdict is: Replace both front brake lines, left axle u-joint, and the left locking hub fell to pieces when the mechanic pulled it from the left front wheel hub.

    Steering went crazy!

So far it looks like a new right axle u-joint, right tie-rod ball joint, drag link ball joint.

    Steering went crazy!

I just dropped the truck off at a local shop. I will find out what's wrong in the morning. I forgot to plug the truck in last night but it still started, although very roughly at 30* and 5 inches of snow this morning.

    Steering went crazy!

I was driving my truck around a round-about this morning and there was a pop from the left side of the truck and the steering from then on would pull to the left or the right in a jerky fashion. The truck is a 1990 F250 4X4 regular cab XLT Lariat with the Dana 50 TTB front end. I am taking the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Today I replace the cowl seal, and in the past two weeks I replaced the fuel return lines, o-rings and caps, the glow plugs, and the vacuum pump. Just trying to get needed maintenance done before the sub-zero weather sets in.

Tightening alternator and vaccum V belts on 7.3 al

I use a big wrench on the upper bolt lug on the alternator to pull it tight. Once the alternator is tight ( By the way the alternator belt will always be floppier looking than all of the other belts when properly tightened. ) I then use a 3/8 inch short extension on a ratchet inserted into the...
