Trying to figure out what axle I have.

My 83 with TTB has been hassle free. And it hasn't been rebuilt or messed with except for a fluid exchanges and grease. Ford bragged about those in the earlier 80's as being the cats meow for traction and ride stability

    Fuel Tank Leak (best repair?)

They're about a $120 for a steel one and new diesel sending units are available on eBay now. I just replaced both of mine with Spectra brand ones, looked like the oem one side by side.

    Sending unit wiring Pigtail

Appreciate the response, bummer is it isn't the correct part still. That has been the case so far hunting online, going to a junkyard this weekend for it and to gather some extra goodies Edit: didn't realize that link has 60 pages, I'm sure it's somewhere in there, thanks!!

    Sending unit wiring Pigtail

anybody know of a source for the pigtail that would plug into my sending unit (for an 85-86)? Closest thing I could find is one from the mustang, and parts stores only list a 4pin plug. Anybody know for sure, mine is toast. Been searching online for hours, also going to call the ford dealer...

Nice, no reason not to do a new sender, who wants to drop a tank more than once

    Dang it,

I have an 83 F250 with dual tanks,I picked up a new sending unit for an 85-86 F-250 and a new fuel tank for an 83 F250...apparently the hole for the sending unit was smaller by a decent amount in 83 versus 85-86. The rear fuel tank is a Spectra F1C, anybody know if you can run an 85-86 rear...

    WOW..... Just WOW!!!!!

I had done that and called the local shop that I frequent, they said the part # was for a ring gear....I asked them to verify on their website that the part # would work on "my" 83 DMC, once they had you could hear the entire parts counter laughing!!

    1983 F250 w/ factory semi float Dana 60

The real axle tag is stamped: 605145-2, so not a Dana 61

    1983 F250 w/ factory semi float Dana 60

She's got a tight rear end and no leaks, I'm not complaining any!! I trust you oilburners a lot more than other sources that I'd come across over the last couple weeks. Thanks and glad y'all took some time to weigh in on it!!

    1983 F250 w/ factory semi float Dana 60

Thanks, good to hear it from folks with more knowledge on that subject than me. Seems like a lot of people talking about that as being a bastard rear end on a "lighter duty" F250 I had searched for hours before posting this thread, didn't want to logjam the forum with things that had already...

    1983 F250 w/ factory semi float Dana 60

It's the diesel code, these semi float Danas aren't to weak for towing occasionally are they?

    1983 F250 w/ factory semi float Dana 60

After way to many hours to count of research, after taping together the build sheet, verifying the VIN codes, going over dealer paperwork which was in the glovebox and cleaning axle tags to read them I verified that my truck has a semi float Dana 60 LS w/ 3.54's (VIN code C3) in my early 1983...

    In retrospect,,,,,,

Interesting to know, when it's time to rebuild it I'll have to source a newer version oil cooler, or bring it in with the old O-ring dimensions or part #'s to a Cat dealer and maybe they could cross reference them.
