I've got a couple of questions maybe someone can answer. #1 What's the part number for the Larger IDIT piston pin bushings? #2 How prone to failure are the oil coolers Should I replace or clean and reuse?

    Favorite mechanical lift pump brand?

I would be interested. The beauty of these trucks is the ability to run with limited electrical assistance and could actually run with no electrical assistance beyond a starter and glow plugs.

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

Are you running different/new rocker arms with the new cam? If so I wonder if they are the problem?

    Massive! oil consumption

Yes, a leak down will narrow it down. The engine I am currently rebuilding had compression readings at 200 or below. What I found upon tear down was excessive wear around the top of the pistons above the top ring.

    Very nice looking truck.

I already have these Mahle/Clevite lifters. I haven't looked at them closely yet. I will probably put my hands on a set of Melling and see what they look like. There might be a restocking fee on the Mahle but that's OK.

I figured as much that's why I picked that brand. The problem is a lot of companies source their aftermarket stuff differently from OE. I work primarily on Asian cars and see that Denso OE parts and Denso aftermarket parts can be different. I've also seen it with Delphi/Delco

I don't mind a little more pricey. I want quality. When your into an engine for $2-$3000.00 whats a little more. I'll check them out. I just got off the phone with O'Reilly, Melling lifters are USA made and cheaper than the Mahle.

They are Mahle. That's what's disappointing. Looks like Mahle bought Clevite or vice-versa? I'm going to have the boys at O'reilly's look at a Melling box today and see where they are made. I can't picture too many companies making lifters. Clevite has been around forever in the US. Mahle is a...

I am very confident that nothing original on your 93 model said China. Mexico, and Canada yes. I have worked in the Automotive repair business for 40 years (showing my age) and I can assure you the quality in Chinese products is not there. In this case, I may be wrong but do I really want to...

Getting Some parts in. I'm happy with most of them. I'm kind of concerned about the Clevite roller lifters being made in China. Does anyone know if there are any American made Lifters? I expected more from Clevite then that. I'm inclined to clean inspect and reuse the originals.

Thanks, I'll probably do the cooling mod. The valve springs are on an order I haven't submitted yet I'm still checking a few things out before I order. Those valve seals in the picture look like a valve spring washer/shim and seal all in one.

I finally removed the engine and have it torn down to the point I can formulate a game plan. I will be using standard size pistons and bearings. I will replace the rocker arms as well as the lifters. Looks like the heads need a trip to the machine shop for some valve guide replacement and valve...

    Powerstroke Replacement

It's been a while but I finally made some time to work on the project. The donor truck has been partially dismantled. I needed a rebuildable engine to build and install so I figured I would get everything I would need for the 4x4 upgrade as well.

Tapping sound on my 7.3 idi

A video of the noise would help. You might try loosening each injector line one at a time and see if the noise goes away. If any particular loosened line makes the noise go away at least you know what cylinder to further investigate.

1990 7.3 Fuel filters keep needing changed ever 20 miles

A fuel pressure gauge before the filter would tell you something about the lift pump pressure. You could also try a fuel volume test. There should be a specification for that somewhere.

    Gauges Rising Simultaneously?

You might check the charging voltage when the problem is happening. If you are overcharging it could cause the gauges to read higher.

I would need to replace pistons to go with the rods and wrist pins. I don't know the condition of the cylinders so I will need to wait and measure the cylinders. What did you have as far as pistons? According to the previous owner, it ran well before the lift pump went out and the 90k on the...

I'm still thinking about rebuilding the NA engine I have in my parts truck (it's all about space and time). If I do I would put Turbo rods, flywheel, and front pulley into the NA block. I have a dual mass delete clutch kit here in the shop for the turbo engine. I would need some turbo rods and...

    6.9 glow plug tip issue

I finally got the truck in a place it can stay for a while and not be in the way. I was able to do a compression test tonight. My suspicions were correct. Cylinder seven (last cylinder passenger side) has 200lbs of pressure all other cylinders have 425-475lbs. Cylinder seven is the cylinder...
