    6.9 IDI Build

Piston Ring End Gaps? This is what I have found on this site: 6.9 top ring: .014-.024 2nd ring: .060-.070 oil control ring: .010-.024 7.3 top ring: .013-.045 2nd ring: .060-.085 oil control ring: not listed I have also read that the 7.3 numbers are the same for both N/A and turbo models...

    6.9 IDI Build

I can't figure out my my links to imgur pics won't work. Edit: I figured it out. I have to switch the setting on the Imgur website to "direct link."

    6.9 IDI Build

I got my parts baxk from the shop juat in time for the Christmas slowdown at work. Here is the metal fresh from the machine shop. So far I have painted it, installed piston squirters, camshaft, and crankshaft. It literally took all day and into the night to install the crankshaft. This...

6.9 and 7.3 IDI Engine Reseal and Rebuild Kits

This company lists 6.9 and 7.3 pre-cups. It doesn't say what material they are using. I doubt it is inconel. http://www.hbaron.com/precombustion_chambers.htm

6.9 and 7.3 IDI Engine Reseal and Rebuild Kits

Wow, just one month too late for me. I would have loved to buy a kit from you. You give excellent support on this site. Thanks for all your help!

It took a little convincing, but I got him to install the 910's.

    6.9 IDI Build

Summit and a few other places list the 910 springs at 380 lbs/inch. Jegs lists them at 458 lbs/inch. I assume that the Jegs number is wrong. Does anyone know the rate of stock springs? My math comes up with 302.5 lbs/inch. Closed height of 1.8 inches minus open height of 1.4 inches equals 0.4...

    6.9 IDI Build

My machinist is not happy installing the Comp Cams 910 valve springs. He thinks they are much too stiff. Do you all use new retainers and keepers when installing these springs. He would really be much happier if I let him install the original springs.

    Lift kits?

The steering linkage that comes off your pitman arm should sit at close to the same angle as your track bar. So if you get a drop track bar bracket, you need to get the corresponding drop pitman arm. I put a 2 1/2" lift on my truck and before putting the drop track bar bracket and drop pitman...

    6.9 IDI Build

Maybe I'm overthinking this and I'm being overly worried about piston to valve clearance. But the destroked pistons with an original thickness head gasket would give about the same compression ratio as a stock height piston with the thicker head gasket. And with the desroked piston I would still...

I just picked up a Moose Junior pump and ARP studs, both still unused, from a fellow member for a nice price. Gotta love this site.

    6.9 IDI Build

I'm leaning towards a Moose Junior pump. I'm hoping that I will be able to tow through the mountains with it until I am intercooled, without generating too much heat.

Balance the rotating assembly on a rebuild?

If what you gave him is off an auto transmission, that is a flexplate and not a flywheel. You need to get him a flywheel and not have him balance it with that flexplate if you plan on using a manual transmission.

    6.9 IDI Build

Oh I was under the impression that they are forged. It seems like forged pistons aren't available for this motor then. Would hypereutectic pistons be better for a couple of hundred less?

    6.9 IDI Build

I'm not looking to hot rod the motor. I just want to reliably pull a small toy hauler through the mountains at 65 MPH without having to worry about overheating or high EGTs.

    6.9 IDI Build

I'm going with Mahle forged pistons. I'm wondering if I should buy them destroked .010. The block deck checked out good so it will be a stock deck height. The heads will be milled .005. Since I'm using the higher lift cam, milling the heads and boring the block, I think I should go with the...

    6.9 IDI Build

I'm building a 6.9, so I may as well start a thread right? Plans are: 6.9 bored .020 over Head Studs Type4 cam Comp Cams 910 springs All new valve train parts Stock ATS 093 Turbo IP undecided Intercooler plans for the near future Goal for this motor: To reliably pull a small toy hauler through...

7.3 IDI Turbo Knock -> Engine Pull and Rebuild

I was worried about that too, so I built this A-Frame to help handle the weight. I can even roll it around carefully by myself. I don't think I could have moved it without it. Edit: Darn I can't get the picture up. But its basically a welded A-Frame that sits on the front rails of the engine...

    Balancing a 6.9 with E4OD Flexplate

How difficult is it to get a 6.9 rotating assembly balanced with an E4OD flexplate? Is this a routine simple balancing job? I would use the 6.9 harmonic balancer, right?
